I'm still wondering if the G3 seat with adjustable height mechanism can be retrofitted into G2 models. Does anybody know?

You may want to check out the cost first. I checked on 2009 seats for my Civic, and while Honda don't sell the seat complete, the parts would run well over $2,000. You can get a RECARO seat much cheaper, and I would be willing to bet they make brackets for the Prius. You would lose the seat airbag, though.

I think RECARO makes a model of seat with a side airbag (at least it used to).

I haven't seen it on any of the web-sites. Do you have a source?

I think that the RECARO websites may be some of the worst I've ever seen. It seems that one gets easily trapped in website hell.

I'll try to dig up the web page and link it here.

RECARO Ergomed ES and E seats with side airbag

Here's a link to the web page for the RECARO Ergomed ES seat (it comes with or without side airbag):

    .: RECARO :.

And there's a cheaper version called the Ergomed E seat that also comes with or without side airbag:

Thanks for all the info. My question is actually pretty simple:

Does/can the new driver's seat in the G3 fit in the G2? Does anyone have info on the physical dimensions of the seat & tracks etc.?

Also, would the three electrical connectors under the 04 -09 hook into the 2010 seat?

My guess is .... chances of 2010 seat dropping in without custom brackets I think would be quite low. Seems to me they want to sell 2010's not have folks retro their Gen2's.

Just my opinion though. We'll see.

I think since nobody has a G3 yet...or any specific stats on the G3 yet...nobody is going to know the answer to your question.

I brought it up to one of the toyota reps actually while at the LA event. They didn't answer the question though.

zen,i'm really curious as to why you need to know this,if it does fit and you want one you'll have to,

[1]Wait for the 2010 to go on sale,to get one new in a parts dept.Expensive.
[2]Wait for someone to buy one, crash it..beyond repair and hope the airbag in the seat didn't deploy.

If you just want that adjustment[which we have on European models]i refer you again to jelluslog's post.

Where is this post you speak of? I did a search on this forum for "jelluslog" and there were zero hits. I did the same search on google, just to check. Again, the only hit is the post you just wrote. Someone/anyone have an actual link to share?

If you want the top-of-the-line with airbag, you are looking at somewhere north of $3,300. However, they have RECARO seats from less than $1,000.

    (Resurrecting this thread again)...

@cycledrum: I've been following most of your posts in various threads related to seat comfort.

One question: Can one just swap in an entire Corolla seat (back and bottom) without disassembling it to the degree you did? All I want is height adjustment, and a used Corolla seat is a lot cheaper than a Recaro Trend Topline ($1600 *and* discontinued). My local shop can futz with the brackets and airbag sensor placement. In other words, since the rail width is the same, can't one just mount the Corolla seat in whole?

Yeah, I've had a one-track mind on that subject, but that's what happens when throwing comfort priority out the window when buying.

Anyrate, yes. The 05-08 Corolla and 04-09 Pruis seat frames are very similar in size. The seatbacks, except for the headrest bar are virtually identical and must be from the same manufacturer. FWIW, the 2010 Prius seat frame is larger than both of these, like a midsize class seat, not compact.

Pictured is a 2007 Corolla LE seat in my 2009. Only mod to make this happen was Corolla feet removed, 4 Prius feet attached (In this picture, feet only bolted on and electrical not connected, so I didn't drive, only sat in it).

It goes very low indeed. In fact, my seat is set about 12 or 13 cranks up, and I can still see better than with stock Prius seat. Now, if I can just get that telescopic steering wheel and greater reach to the brake ..... J/K. I'll upgrade to new Prius for that.

The Corolla seat bottom is pretty good too. I much prefer it to the 2nd Gen Prius seat bottom. Just make sure you don't get a 2004 Corolla seat as it has the knob type seat adjuster. Best to use the 2005 - 2008 Corolla seat for your Prius.

    Good luck!
