Some say that this car is better than a Corolla, some also say it's better than a lot of other cars, but what is it like to me? Cheap. Typical GM quality. I went to a dealership in West Virginia that had one brand-new sitting there with an "adjusted market value" sticker of $3,000 dollars. It was basic and the base price is $16k but the dealer was selling it for $21k. That's not the cars fault, no, what I was surprised to see was RUST. No lie. On the silver trim around the window were little specs of rust. They didn't scratch off either. They were absolutely rust. I was in awe, so just last night, I'm back in Illinois, I go to Dan Hect Chevy & Toyota and they have a Cruze there. I get out to look at it, and guess what. IT HAS RUST TOO! I do have to say that for any of you, if you buy a Cruze, one part that I know of will rust within the day you get your car. I'll try and snap some pictures of it for you guys to see.

Weird... but I thought the rest of the car was well thought out. I like the cloth inserts in the dashboard. It kinda breaks up the plastic. The plastics controls seem better with a firmer response and the trunks fairly huge too.

Many cars when they are first run new have added dealer markups. Dealers have done it for the Prius and other hybrids, as well as even the Honda Element. When we shopped we had dealers asking $2000 above list when we bought. We were able to find it at $200 off list during that time.

Rust on the trim on a brand new car? I find that hard to believe!

I promise it's true! I'm going to Buffalo Wild Wings tonight and on my way back, I'll stop and take several pictures of different Cruze's with the rust on the silver trim around the windows. You'll see. :)

Oh, please believe, I really like the car! It's a HUGE step above a Cobalt. I really like it. It's just the silver trim around the windows that are already showing age. And it's new! Haha.

I agree with ThatPriusCar. The Cruze is boring and uninspired. Better than the Corolla? The Corolla has been the paragon of reliability. How could they possibly say that about the Cruze already?

I believe the OP about the rust on the silver plastic. I can already imagine exactly what it looks like.

Yeah, please post a picture, then we can make this thread viral and expose GM as the poor company they are. GM will beg to give us Volts to remove the photo!

    18,000 produced.

    5,048 sold.

Cruze isn't exactly the industry-shaking, runaway hit GM had anticipated. It should be interesting to see what the next 6 months or so brings.

I'd like to see the pics.

It's probable that what you're seeing is "rail dust", which some new cars apparently get being transported on trains, though I wonder how much of that is just me rehashing the same old line.

In any case, tiny specks _all over_ a paint job are not terribly uncommon and can be taken off with a clay bar. They can even happen on new cars. Now, if there is a real clear growth and build up of rust that is obviously bad. I'd love to see the pics.

I've read a review or two of the Cruze. Apparently it's quite a nice car, but it is expensive, too. I'm not really sure what demographic they're trying to get at. If you're GM trying to steal civic and corolla buyers away but charging more you're going to have a hard time, no matter how good the car appears to be in terms of options and refinement.

Probably 1/2 of them are still on the train
I think they are just showing up on the lots in Canada

Yeah, I can say that it's a nice little car. Just the trim is what's already showing signs of rust.

I know, I feel bad for keeping you guys waiting. I haven't been by Dan Hect lately. Tomorrow I think Brad and I are going that way to get new tires, so I'll snap some pictures of it. :)

I've only seens pics and commercials of the Cruze. Based solely on this - GM appears to have done a great job on interior design. And seems to have received very good reviews on that.

Perhaps that alone will induce sales of the Cruze.

Must say - I almost didn't buy my Prius V BECAUSE of the interior.

If Toyota hasn't done so already, they need to infuze their interior design teams with less conservative engineers.
Google 'how bland can an auto interior be?' and you know the sites that will be linked... kidding.

But c'mon Toyota add eye appeal to the Prius interiors:
    1. Less cheap plastic, better material quality, feel, and appearance
    2. More color combinations/variations - current 3 are so bland
    3. More colorful and crisp instrumentation and lighting - greeeeen?.....is so 1990s

Here are the RUST spots. They're rust. They won't rub, or scratch off. It's rust.

    Oh, I feel your pain.
When I had my 2010 Prius, the plastics are so much harder and cheaper. The green MFD is so hard to read, and it's so old school. I think it's funny that a 2001 Prius, a 10 year old car, has a better screen. In the Gen.II, at least on the 06'-09' models, their interior feels so much better. The dash, glove box, door panels at wrapped with a material of some sort that has a wood grain look to it. It's so much better. Hopefully Toyota will do some changes on the 2012 model.

Definitely rust. However, is that piece of trim metal or plastic? If metal it's probably through the paint or whatever. If plastic it could be rail dust. I've had dust like that--though spots not as big (those are comparatively huge for rail dust) on plastic and it comes off with a clay bar because it's not the car actually rusting but just junk that landed on it. Do you think it's junk? is this on more than one car?

That is exactly what I was thinking. Possibly rail dust but those spots look fairly rounded like something rusting. My 2000 Trans Am was covered in rail dust such that I told the dealer not to prep it and just let me take it home to clay bar it.
