Just a reminder that when UK drivers post there fuel consumption, the MPG figures will differ to USA values. 1 US Gallon = 3.81 litres 1 UK gallon = 4.54 litres So a fuel consumption of 50MPG in the USA will be 59MPG in the UK (19% difference in the gallons) Apologies if this point has been raised before.
This summer, mine's been averaging 55-58 mpg with just regular driving on power mode mostly, 78 mph on freeways and 45 mph on local roads and the average mpg is still going up! Happy!!! iPhone ?
i have a blue metallic 2010,,,,,took a 1000 mile trip up the coast of calif on hwy 1,,,,monterey, gilroy (garlic capital) then back to palm springs....was pleasantly surprised with 53.9 mpg next week went to las vegas and back about 500 miles, ave 51.7 mpg..... so i'm not disappointed with the little blue ribbon 2010.... hope everyone is getting similar results
Have a 2010 Prius III with L/T 1000 miles on it.....I'm into my 3rd tank of fuel....using 87 octane with 10% ethanol.....very hard to get 50 MPG on the trip meter.....when I do the math it's more like 43-45 MPG......my son has the same car....his trip meter is always about 55-57 MPG.....both of us use econ mode full time. Not quite what I expected.
I have life time average of 4.3L/100km all city driving 16 km per trip, over 7000 km since. I seldom drive on highways. Last few days I drove 100km per day on highways to a provincial park and average, guess, still 4.3 L/100km, max. speed 120 km/hr. Today I decided to go to the same provincial park via a different, but shorter route, which is more scenic and has more rolling (some are steep) hills, and has speed limit of only 80 km/hr except for a few villages where it was 60 and then 50 km/hr. (but I drove mostly at 90km/hr). The total round trip was 65km and I'm happy to report that my Prius got a historic low fuel consumption of 3.6L/100km for the whole round trip. 3.6L/100km! That's 65+ mpg! Amazing considering my driving style is exclusively PWR mode gunning it to speed and then cruise control. I even didn't care about fuel economy cause I thought since it's my vacation time, I should be taking vacation from the mpg game too. So I kept gunning it even when going up on those steep hills. Conclusion: Prius is most fuel efficient at around 90 km/hr (55 mph). (Ok, it's been mentioned many times here in the forum but I'm just happy to report this as another proof.)
18th tank 51.4MPG (Calculated) 53.5MPG (Indicated) Mild temps 50-80. AC set at 79 some days. AC off on mild days. 99% ECO Mode. No rainy days. No ethanol Mild temps and no rain = better mileage. Tony
My experience is different. The most fuel efficient Prius speed can be achieved below 46mph threshold. My best was done at avg. 34km/h (21mph). Ken@Japan
This is our 2nd Prius...our '07 consistently got 46-47 and our '10 is consistently getting between 50 - 51.6. We live in central AZ so there is some mountain driving involved as well. When that happens, or when we run up to Flagstaff (a change in altitude from 3400' to over 7000') the mileage will drop 1 or 2 mpg. Overall, very happy with the change...we currently have just over 6000 on the new one.
Greetings All, I have my first Prius (and second Toyota). I don't believe I will ever drive a car again! I trully enjoy tooling around in my transport pod. I don't know why the rest of the world thinks it's a car. Maybe the four tires confuses them. Cars are for those who don't know any better. Both my dear bride and I can get 55.5 mpg (US) without trying. When I really work at it, I can get as high as 56.1! I wish there was a reset button for milage when I fill up like in the Ford Focus. But I can live without it. Oh and it bums me out that my pod gets better milage than my bike. What's the world coming to. Bill
You can reset the mileage. Press and hold the Trip button when looking at the A or B trip meter and it will reset that trip meter's mileage. Is that what you' re trying to do?
19th tank. 50.4MPG (Calculated) 53.7 (Indicated) Cool-Mild temps 37-75. 100% ECO Mode. Not much AC. No rainy days. No ethanol 6% indicated error for no good reason. Tony
After 954 miles, 56.4 mpg actual (16.37 gallons). Daily 72 mile commute (144 miles roundtrip) freeway with traffic.
After about 22000 km (13600 US miles) I have a 3,83 l/100km (61.41 mpg) calculated. My best 2010 long distance trip result was in june, where I got a 3.2 l/100km (73.5 mpg) indicated. I made some statistics and I calculated that P3 on board computer is about 6.5%-7% optimistic. So my real best value should have been around 3.42 l/100km, that is 68.8 mpg.
Mate, that's some very impressive fuel consumption figures that I could only dream of. Keep up the good work!
In my experience, the magnitude of inaccuracy in the HSI MPG display seems to be correlated to the amount of engine off gliding I do. On straight highway tanks, the HSI MPG display is very close to calculated. Lots of town driving and it is off by as mush as 8% over an entire tank.
Thanks SmogSlide, anyway I have to say that I have archived such results because of the kind of trip I made. I mean that 1) I use to have a quite long travel ( about 30 km) to get work. That means that the hsd gets it's working temperature and works more efficiently for the most of time. Otherwise if I had short distance trips I would have a a worse overall performance. 2) I mostly drive plan urban and secondary roads. So I have the chance to recover kinetic energy because there are stops (it's a kind of pulse & glide but not that good) and the wind resistance is quite low. On the other way I have to say that if I get into a traffic jam (and it's not that often) it's not the best for fuel consumption. By the way.. It's so nice sharing experiences w/ people all over the world
Returned today to Halifax, Nova Scotia from a week at the Hotel Frontenac in beautiful Quebec City. FYI... 2083.6 km total total fuel burned 108.3 litres total fuel cost CAN $112.67 calculated fuel usage (Imp) 54.5 mpg computer economy 4.8 l/100km - (Imp) 58.9 mpg vehicle heavily laden and driven mostly at 110 km/hr (half the distance in rain) BTW, the Frontenac offers hybrids free inside parking, a saving of $150, which paid for my fuel and a very nice bottle of wine.
I increased the air pressure in my 2010 Prius (tech package) to 40psi and my mileage has gone from ave. 46 To 50mpg. Car is in Denver. Driving is mixed with 75% in town. Using the A/C seems to make no difference in mileage. Ride is a bit rougher (I have the low profile tires, but the increase in mileage is worth it. Anyone have similar experiences? Can I expect any problems using this much psi? Total mileage is about 8,000.
I've had my 2010 Prius III for a couple weeks now, and just did my first fill up today. My own calculation of MPG was very close to the car estimate. I figured 41 and the car estimates 40.9. I guess I am posting here since this is less than what I expected. I'm thrilled with the car, but would like the maximum MPG I can get. The car I bought was brand new, it had 24 miles on it when i took delivery. My driving has been about 60% city and 40% highway. A few times I have tried Eco mode or Power Mode, but most of the driving was in normal mode. Should I need to drive in Eco Mode to get the 51/48 on the sticker? This is my first hybrid. I would say my driving has been very conservative. There are a lot of hills here though, which is the only time the gauge heads over to the red "power" area on the screen. I suppose I can try to stick to "Eco Mode" for this next tank. For this fill-up, I drove 284 miles and it took 6.920 gallons to fill it. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
