I tinted my windows at 20% and no improvement in MPG at all but much cooler.

Just live on top of a really tall hill, and always drive downhill.

Getting back to the top is your problem!!!

Seriously, have anybody considered doubling the HV battery's capacity by simpy buying a OEM battery pack from Toyota and connect it to the existing one in parallel?
Sounds like you'd be able to capture more of the kinetic energy from braking and downhill glides.

Would that be technically viable? Is there any danger of doing this? Will the manufacturer warranty be voided?

Final questions: would it help improve mpg? by how much? is it worth doing?

    Hi gray..,

Wont work. The Evo needs those vortex generators because its rear window is so steep, and it shields the air from getting to the wing. They need em to get the wing to work. Its just a fluke they only very very slightly improve wind drag (a .006 change in Cd). Design the rear of the car to be lowest drag shape, like the Prius, and the Vortex generators make things worse!

Airtabs have been repeatedly tested on cars over on Ecomodder.com with no change, to worse drag. They do redirect the air. But, as they are designed for box trucks, they are much too big for typical cars, and practically monstrous for the boundary layer on a Prius.

Airtabs have been shown to reliably improve aero-stability in a few applications -specifcally the front of a first generation Prius, (two underneath) .

For Airtabs, or other vortex generators to work, the vehicle shape has to have radical changes in direction off the air-flow, and then be designed correctly for the application. There is a very fine balance between how much air is deflected, and the drag reduction. Deflect too much air, and any drag reduction is overwhelmed by the drage to deflect the air in the first place.

For example, the Tubulators I put on my 2006 were only about .06 to .1 inch thick.....

Your emission will probably go up and the catalytic converter may die quicker. It is about $5-6k.

Better maybe to get one of those cartoon hammers that can pop out of your rear hatch and a broom for the front grill. That way you can smash and sweep away the lane turd in front of you that cannot figure out how fast they want to go and is messing up your nice pace via cruise control.

    They're going 55.....then its 60.....then its 50......BAM!!! Swoosh!

    To date:

Mud flaps (increased mileage - 2.718 MPG)
Removing wheel covers (increased mileage 3.14 MPG)
Helium in tires (increased mileage - also 3.14 MPG)

While the Muds help on dirt, the helium really also helps handling...
