The direction GM is going. 1. The Volt. This will be the first time GM has sold a EV car. 2. The new chevy cruise with up to 40 mpg 3. The Hybrid fullsize trucks, also one of the best if not the best mpg off all full size trucks. 4. Lowering the uaw workers pay to below Toyota's. 5. Ect ect. To comment on your reply, i think GM needs to get the volt out there and get the bugs worked out before they announce a whole line of ev/gas cars. Give them some time.
IMO the Volt = GM = government. It is permeated with the stink of corruption and hence, is a losing proposition right out of the gate. And a part of me suspects that this is EXACTLY the purpose- that it was designed to fail. Maybe I am wrong, but I tend to bat a pretty high average on these things. Gotta keep your eye on the ball. This car is simply a product just like a dishwasher or a cell phone. Everything is REALLY about the company. And the company is REALLY about wealth for a small tier of paper manipulators. Think forward.
Hi Adamace, Some companies deserve masters and PhD engineers - to change the way things are done for the better. Some companies should just employ smart technicians, and outsource their engineering - GM is one of these companies. And if they were not paranoid about product developement leaks - they would! This is not a slap at the GM engineers, or the GM Volt engineers - its more a comment about how poorly GM management is regarding the modern pace of technology...
1. It's not an EV. The ICE can run the Volt directly, when the battery is depleted. The lack of truthfulness about that fact is disturbing to many who'd like to think GM has changed. 2. Specs are now on the Chevrolet site and they are saying 26/36 mpg (manual)with the N/A engine and 24/36 (auto with O/D) with the turbo. Again, it relates back to honesty, integrity etc. 3. Escalade hybrid averages 18mpg ... and, 2010 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Expert Review - MSN Autos 4. Lowering worker's pay - though the exec's still fly around in private jets, rather than 1st class commercial, or better yet, coach ... or net conference. .
Donee hit it on the head IMO. The poll to my mind asks if (perhaps inadvertently) the Volt is a successful halo car. I would answer yes, if I gave two shakes about halos.
Realistically it's too early to tell how the volt will do. Yes, the price is high for most, even prior to release, but who know . . . somehow (call me the eternal optimist) it may make it despite the company's history. I hope so. .
1. Ok if yor going to make me be perfectly correct about everything. I will try better. The Volt is the first car GM has sold that can go up to 40 miles on electricity only. Then it can burn gas to generate electricity to power the wheels so you can keep driving without having to stop to charge it. And yes at 70mph+ after the battery is low the ICE can power the wheels directly. 2. Ok they do say "Coming late 2010, Cruze ECO is expected to offer up to 40 MPG highway" They are not saying they promise it will get 40 but that they are trying to get that. 3. I was saying there full size trucks beat others in mpg, and they also offer a hybrid that gets 21 city and 21 highway or 22 for both i don't remember. So for people that do needs trucks they offer the best miles per gallon. Give them a little credit. 4. Everyone in that situation does the same thing. Did Toyota's ceos fly in coach when they asked the japanise bank for 6 billion? NO 5. Every auto maker lies, and makes mistakes. No company is perfect. it's all how you look at it. Toyota has recalled more cars then the big three have all put together over the last year or two. Does that mean their unsafe? NO Does that mean they knew about problems and did nothing about it to save money yes. All companies are out to make money, it's a simple fact.
This pole has "I Like the direction GM is going" and "I don't like GM." Are we talking about the way GM is going, or are we talking about whether we like GM or not? You can hate something but like the direction it is headed, or you can like something but hate the direction it is headed. Whattawetalkinabouthere? Just because GM's corporate executives and marketing division lied to the general public and continue to be deceptive does not necessarily mean that their engineers and computer programmers didn't come up with something that could actually be really good for the environment. Until we have an actual production Volt to comprehensively test, I think it's still premature to be knocking the Volt. GM's engineers are likely making some last minute optimizations to the computer software, and the actual production cars aren't yet able to be tested (because they don't yet exist). The way I look at it, if the Volt uses a gasoline engine on the highway (70mph+) but uses plug-in electric in the city and has regen braking, it's still a heck of a lot better than the current full ICE cars that most people are driving today.
A poll, an election, is not an essay seeking the perfect. Rather, it is an exercise in choosing the least bad or overall, most accurate answer. In this case, more for fun as two separate questions are being answered. I would have designed the poll differently. But then I wasn't expecting to see a poll in this forum. Bob Wilson
I'm not that smart i tried my best. I was just wanting to look at poll numbers to see how prius owners that visit a prius web site felt about Gm and the volt. The results so far are a little better than i thought. Also it seems most people that dislike or hate GM feel the same way about the volt. I didn't think it would be much different if i just did one at a time.
you have probably been asked this before, but why are you always bringing up gm? i think most people would like them to succeed, at least as far as smaller more fuel efficient cars are concerned. we certainly need to keep as much american manufacturing as possible, but i think many are tired of the poor job the bigwigs at gm have been doing for quite awhile now. i saw an ad for the cruz tonite, cute car and decent milage, i hope they do well with it.
