One of the handy features of another smart key car I had was the ability to lock it while warming it up or running in a gas station. Is there a way to lock the Prius while its running?

    jholder,

I don't know how or if it can be done on the 2010 because I don't have one to try it out on, but it works on my 2005 when I have a dog in the car (safely away from the shifter in a crate in the rear area) in the summer. All I have to do is slide the little metal key out of the fob & lock the car by turning that metal key in the keyhole in the driver's door. I don't know if it can be done the same way on the 2010 though.

Exactly the same with the 2010. Just use the manual lock. With a dog in the car, though, just one warning: it's a good idea to post a clear notice about how it works so that some well meaning person avoids smashing a window. I use the attached.

I do it almost every day. If you don't want the car to beep keep the fob inside.

This guy with a Gen2, plug-in conversion, leaves the fob in car, powered on, lock door with the metal key ....

that way doesn't go through another ICE warm up when taking off. I'm sure that's just for a quick stop though.

i used to leave my car on and locked every day.. around 10 to 30 times a day. i was doing cookie deliveries. these cookies are on sticks. if i let them get warm, the cookie falls off the stick.

i used the metal key to get into the car. i didn't care to waste the time pulling the key out so i can lock it though.

as you go to get out of your car, roll the drivers window down. close the door, reach in and lock the car.. then auto up the window....

just make sure that fob is in your pocket.. as there really is no way in without that metal key...

btw.. the triple beeps really seem like a security thing. nobody ever looked over at my car. I also had a/c running so.. it isn't like the car was too quiet.

it makes me wonder now... with the odd noises a prius puts off, people must have though my car was a little odd sounding.

May I use your sign, too? My sister leaves her black lab in the car with the AC on in the summer and I see people looking funny until they realize the car is still running. I love her car and so does she!

I stop by the Prius Chat forums every few days to see what is new. Sometimes it is like the movie ground hound day. Same questions in new threads.

There has to be at least 15 different threads with this question over the last 12 months.

I agree and I'm a newbie on this forum seeing the same issues rethreaded. BTW, I just can't imagine leaving my car running while I'm away from it! It's not likethe engine going to wear out.

    Happy Motoring,

    Tom

You're right. Lock with the metal key.
