Background: new-to-us 2006 Prius, package #8 (all singing and dancing). The previous owner left it with this knob-like thing on the dashboard that I assume was for mounting a cell phone holder. However, it's not a ProClip product and a quick Google search didn't turn up any more clues. Can anyone help me ID the thing? Ideally I'd like to find a way to mount an iPhone holder from it, since it's essentially stuck there forever--I don't think I can remove it without cracking the face of the stereo. Please see attached.
Update: it's a magnet. I wonder if there exist mounts that use a magnet, or whether it was just for keeping the driver's to-do notes pinned to the dash…
Update 2: Someone from another forum IDed it as The Phone Dot. The Phone Dot Magnetic Cell Phone Holder Universal Cell Phone Holder Cell Phone Holder What kind of product instructs you to glue a magnet on the back of your phone? I'm not doing that! I'm sure I can rig up a solution with a cradle, hot glue, and a small magnet, however.
you only put a little metal strip (very thin with adhesive backing) on the back of the phone ... NOT the magnet on the phone ... i have mine inside the battery cover so that i can move that strip from one phone to another easily without even taking the adhesive backing out ... works great with epic .. no loss in signal / battery drain ... hope this helps!
Interesting. As a kitchen magnet stuck to it I went ahead and ordered a cradle, another magnet, and some hot glue from amazon. This could be good… or I could be returning a lot of stuff to amazon or shoving it into the shop, never to be seen again.
