I have a 2006 package 8 Prius, recently acquired. It has an aux in 1/8" jack in the center console but I can't figure out how to select it. I can only seem to be able to select CDs from the changer with the disc/aux button. Am I missing something basic here or is the aux in not actually implemented? Is it only active when the cd player is physically disconnected? I tried the manual but it glossed right over the topic... TIA.
I've seen this before. You must connect a jack into that plug in order to select the AUX channel from your radio. So here is a simple test, get you ipod, plug into your center console jack input and select AUX from the radio, it should work.
It worked. The connection using a simple 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable was staticky enough that the Voice Control feature on the iPhone's iPod app kept on thinking that I wanted to switch songs or fast forward, however. I think the ideal solution, assuming the problem is in the cabling I used or at the iPhone's headphone jack, would be to bypass the headphone jack completely. These two products, < $20 shipped together from amazon, should do the trick: 1) "Fulfilled By Amazon - 4ft iPod / iPhone / iPad Gold-plated 2-in-1 Apple Dock Connector to 3.5mm Audio AUX and USB Charge/Sync Cable. Compatible with All models of iPod, iPhone and iPad. Works with All Firmware Versions. Enables Charging and Playing at the Same Time." on amazon 2) "Griffin Technology Powerjolt Dual Universal (Black)" on amazon (Sorry, I can't post links or link to images due to my post count.) I don't think that Voice Control should be activated if the audio out's coming out of the dock connector, the sound quality should be better, and the phone can be charged on the road as well. With the extra USB port, even, we could plug in a second iPhone USB-to-dock cable and charge up both of our phones on long trips. Excellent.
