Well, at least this would explain getting rid of the Roman numeral model designation.

 

Prius V I'm guessing is a Van-like wagon while the Prius C is the current more Compact Prius.

 

Judging from it, I don't see 50% more interior room. Of course, unless Prius V is wider.

Nope. That old Matrix is shorter than the 3rd Gen Prius. This Prius V looks to hit the sweet spot of about 180" length which will put it in position to take out the Jetta TDI Sportwagen (as if the Prius doesn't already).

Wonder if it would also be like a Mazda 5 with sliding rear doors.

 

Hmmmm...Prius Alpha in the form of a wagon?

 

Toyota Verso, launched in 2009, same wheelbase as Prius, same suspension. It is very nice MPV...

 

Of course I'd need to see the vehicle in person. And I think the Prius V is going to be aimed at being more of a big family hybrid...it will be larger.

But that ad is a little off if only because presented that way...it doesn't look that much larger. At first glance my impression isn't "Neat...it's larger" my first impression is...wow..it's almost the same size as the original Prius...

Which I don't think is the message Toyota want's to convey.

Looks like Toyota is trying to nudge into the "green" multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) market with the Prius V before Ford gets their with the hybrid version of the Grand C-Max wagon. Since Ford has said they will bring the Grand C-Max to the US market, a version powered by a version of Ford's own hybrid drivetrain will likely become available by 2012.

 

Will the V have a third row? It's all I need to know, the rest is minutia. Seriously, please give it a third row. I don't care if only a tiny baby with knees in arm pitts would fit.

Just read about c-max. Had not heard of it before. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/07/2012-ford-grand-c-max-first-drive-review/ looks great, that tiny third row is just fine. If the Prius V was a similar dimension and could muster 40 mpg city it would be a big win, I mean huge!

 

In Volvo speak, a V is a station wagon, a C is a Coupe', and an S is a sedan.

So is your guess the C is a coupe? With maybe better suspension ala the lexus CT and a little lower weight because of smaller size?

The V in the puzzle looks exactly like a station wagon, of course no one calls it a station wagon anymore. Seems strange to take on Volvo's naming convention though.

 

Couple of things to think about:

1) The new one looks about 12-14" longer in overall length
2) The new one is called the "V"
3) I wonder what car Toyota has, that is built in a factory that already has a Hybrid line?

Venza maybe? Just a guess though..

 

I disagree with the "whole lot" part. I need a hybrid minivan, not a third row for midgets.

Perspective. The (regular) Prius is in the foreground. Therefore closer to the camera and appears larger. If you took a picture with them both parked end to end instead of one car eclipsing the other, you'd see the true difference in size.

I think the Prius V is going to be Mazda5 size. Which is perfect in my book. Good chance this could be my next car. My decision will likely hinge on the interior execution.
