    Hi!

I check to replace the head unit in my prius. I saw on the website of Alpine the new Multimedia receiver : Big X. The example on the website is for a Prius 2010: http://www.alpine.com/e/products/video/x088.html. What do you think? Do you know if we can have the stereo in english? I think it an interesting possibility.

^^ 2k seems about right for a HDD based nav system with all adjustable features. I would love one but its a Japan model so it would probably be hard to get map data for states.

Its the trim piece that is smaller. It should look even better than my 7" DDIN. It does require a different trim piece for LHD.

2K sounds like a reasonable list price. Note that these things are often discounted. I would think alpine could easily add english language and NA or Euro maps. Alpine does seem to behind kenwood and pioneer in Nav HU though.

Maybe we should start another thread based on a new 8" din...

I just noticed my surround - not what others bought - I bought the new one by ...... Not sure - but it has inserts - which means it was designed for a larger din (didn't realize this until this post).

Looks like my surround would fit the 8"................

So likely, this is using my surround....

    I'll attach pics...

That 8" screen is probably no longer wide screen ratio (16:9). It looks like it is close to 4:3.

We can get by with the black bars...

I would love to move to a nice 8" with real WinCE (Mobile WiFi etc). The main stream doesn't appreciate the great stuff MS (or Linux/Android) has available... I have a Pioneer with XM - though there is some cracking being slowly done - I'd swap it in a heart beat for a Chinese thing with 15% more functionality. Even thinking about that other post regarding a new Chinese WINCE6. I was one of the first people to put in a Chinese thing into a 2010 (Previous Prius), and it had bigs, but I would still have it, had my car not been totaled....

8" LCD CAR DVD PLAYER +GPS NAVIGATION 4 Toyota Corolla : eBay Motors (item 170546606108 end time Oct-28-10 20:25:50 PDT) I'd love to see this - and would gladly sacrifice my Pioneer + extras for a more versatile player.

I'd guess the Chinese (wide screen basic design) wide screen wins (surrounds being built) - more because they own the world markets.

Like the X thing though. They just can't build surrounds for the masses - and don't have an open platform.

Its 1.43:1 which is in between those ratios.

I'd rather have the thing with few bugs, than added features. What are you missing in the z120bt versus your Chinese unit? Is it just the better nav software?

Pioneer (IMHO) was best in class (no flames Kenwood/JVC).

Bluetooth calls cannot be used for business, or really most personal use. The mic portion of the HU is past poor (avic411.com).

That said, the Z120 makes it a better "toy", but adds little in the way of tools.

So you are stuck with Pioneer for XM/HD radio (they each cost ... added), or sound (good in this area), but you really can't use it for BT (ironically the Z120BT has BT for Bluetooth). The problem makes this the last thing to buy for anyone using BT during calls.

That said, I like most everything else. It has good EQ vs anything Chinese, and good general sound. It has a very nice (compared with China) interface.

All that said, When I choose a source/station/whatever, I stick there a bit. So - I'm not sure the graphical interface is better - in fact, the Chinese is somewhat straight forward.

I ran a random Chinese thing (probably one of the first 5 aftermarket HUs ever put in a 2010), and liked it overall, and would still have it had my 2010 not been destroyed (that's another story). The new stuff is looking pretty good.

Buying today, if I needed XM/sat/HD, you must go main stream.

The China things offer (not necessarily per model) - in no particular order:
    1. More stations - some give 18 FM presets (like it)
    2. Some have surround sound (who cares)
    3. WInCE 6
    a. Any GPS software (Huge - TomTom, Garmin, iGo - with updates)
    b. IE (Internet Explorer - haven't seen it working - but hey nuff said)
    c. MS files and extension (explorer - able to move stuff, run stuff)
    d. Enough memory (depending on unit) to run Text to Speach
    e. MS stuff like Office (can't imagine why anyone would care)
    f. WinCE support and general apps

The China thing is really bad - in no particular order
    1. Support (virtually none - only in Asia time zone - after 5PST)
    2. Support (docs - pretty much none)
    3. Support - if it breaks, it generally costs $50 just to send it to China
    4. User interface - general GUI for system is not perfect
    5. Updates - not sure about new stuff - and the is BIG - all updates must be done at factory (not WINCE - there are two OSs running - the audio portion is not upgradeable)

So I'm now left thinking I may sell my Pioneer setup (Z120 + XM + MSNBC), to move it a bit forward............
