I have seen somewhere that there was a hatchback tent available for the prius but don't remember where I saw this. Does anyone know or have seen this animal? thanks

I had one for my fullsize Chevy truck and it worked excellent. Not sure how it will work for the Prius though. I;d be worried about scratching the paint if the wind picked up. Otherwise I'm actually considering buying one someday since I use this car for everything and often sleep in the hatch area.

re: Sleeping in a Prius: Front seats full foward, front seatbacks full forward too. Back seats folded down. Two rectangular airplane carry on bags on the rear passenger floor. One driver side, one shotgun. One inflatable DOUBLE BED size (Queen won't work) slid all the way forward. Three US Army pup tent size mosquito nets. One hanging off the (open) hatchback. One each covering the (open) side windows. I close the doors on the nets to keep them in place. There is a small gap between the rear bumper and the rear mosquito net. I remove the radio antenna to protect it when in this configuration. Mighty fine sleeping. I am 5'11" & fit fine. Playing with a closed hatchback mode, but that is not yet ready for prime time.
Buy a good Coleman tent. I purchased a fast set up [1 min] 9x13 and 7' tall cottage type called MAX.. Last winter it was at Wal-Mart for 140.I think they are about 190 now. Very well designed tent, have a look. My son has the kind you are looking at that fits the back of his Toyota Tacoma pick-up and it takes to long to erect it.H
We grabbed some nylon mesh screen and a large box of binder clips from Walmart. $6.48 for the larger of the two nylon screens, and less than $2.00 for binder clips. (you may need two boxes) of the biggest ones. We cut the screen to fit and used the binder clips on the weather strip for the hatch, with a curtain rod used in the hole for the cargo cover to maintain form for feet or heads depending on desire to have head room or sky view. For the windows you can use fridge magnets to attach the screen, or double layer over the top if you want to be able to open the doors without the screen falling off. Tenting in the Prius for less than $10 with about 3 minutes set up.
