Diagnostic Scan Tool

    Jay at autoenginuity said it doesn't yet work on 10 but they are working on this now. Should have a fix very soon as well. I think when they say "hardware fix" they mean the interface chip in the cable connector must be debugged and programmed correctly. In order to do this they need cars to test it on, they are working with some prius tech school where they have limited access to cars, only once in a while.

    Been away for a couple weeks, they now have version 8.2 out. Additionally this support includes the Generation 1 and Generation 2 hybrids systems such as HV Battery and HV ECU. For these systems they also do support the Information Data #s reported with trouble codes. They used an 02' Prius (nonCan) and an 05' CAN to debug. You have to order the Proline connector with the 8.2 package, then order the "Toyota Enhancements" package to unlock them. I just ordered mine, so I'll keep you posted on functionality.

    I am very curious as to how your Autoenginuity scangage 8.2 worked out. I'm currently looking for a scan-tool that will work on my 06 Prius and 2000 Sienna van. Does it work on any car w/ OBDII? I would like to use the scan tool for general work on various other vehicles as well since I'm often asked for car advice.

    AutoEnginuity is one of the better choices out there for what you have in mind. I have it with the Toyota package, but had no problems pulling the DTC codes off a 2000 Insight with a dead IMA HV battery in generic mode. That said, it has known issues with the Gen I Prius. It may be buggy and imperfect, but it's comparatively cheap.

    Has anyone tried bleeding the brakes with Autoenginuity specifically the actuator?

    Sorry been away for a while, the AE scantool works good. I have been able to capture and plot many different parameters. Some things cannot be displayed at the same time, example: if you log on to the battery ecu interface you can see all bat functions like temps and voltages/resistance for each cell. But you cannot access anything about the inverter, for that you must log out and relog into the hybrid ecu, then can see all the inv. and transaxle stuff.
    So all in all for the money and if you already have a good notebook computer, or better yet a tablet computer to install it on, it's well worth the money imho.

    To do this you just add enhanced interfaces you buy from AE and they give you the code to unlock that interface as well in the software. Example I had the Toyota enhanced interface already, but recently added the Ford enhanced interface, so now I can work on all the vehicles we have here. Just call them and they will explain, but the software already has all interfaces but only the ones you pay for get enabled.. Smart eh

    I've been quite happy with the Techstream Lite. It is very affordable and gives you 95% of the capabilities of the dealer.

    I ran across someone who used a scangaugeII to reset the DTC's they had (one for dirty throttle body, another for airbag) when they hit reset codes it went bizerk! Now they have all lights on and the car won't start. This is a perfect example of what can happen if one uses a generic reader to clear codes in a hybrid vehicle. They are fine for monitoring but don't hit reset..

    I have been very pleased with my AutoEnginuity scanner I can graph parameters as well recall, check and clear all codes. With my Ford bundle I have almost payed for the system by running injector buzz test for diesel guys at my work.

    Way I see it is if you take your car to the dealer a couple of times and the AE pays for itself.

    What where the DTC code numbers?
    Scangauge like many other "readers" can "clear"
    However if you have a "maint" or "safety" issues just "clearing dtc" not the way to go......
    Plus with "airbag" you need more than just a "code reader" thats why there are business that do only "airbag" type of issues and a toyota dealer..............

    Sears makes a code reader that will do this, undoing zero points when doing a code reset.

    I've never heard of this happening with SG II, but I suppose it is possible if the car was IG-ON and the reset was passing through just as 12V power was sagging too low, or they simply zapped the 12V in IG-ON and the SG II reset is a red herring.
