You guys in the US will know more, but wasn't the Volt due for release in October 2010?

I've searched the net and this forum and can't find any updated stuff about the release date.

Anyone any ideas or has it been quietly dropped?

As I recall the only date ever given (once they zeroed in on a month) was December 2010.
To my knowledge they are still planning a December release.

Actually, when Nissan announced a December release for the Leaf, Chevy jumped ahead and said, "October".

15 supporters getting cars for 3 months use in late October. Sales begin December in a few markets. 2012 for the rest of us.

The funny thing is, the link doesn't mention an Oct release, neither does the link in the story to the AP source for the story.

Regardless, I agree making 15 cars available to a few supporters in Oct doesn't count. Especially if they gag them. I would hope we get some real world data from them.

They seem to have freedom to use and report. Looking forward to those reports.

Are we reading the same article? The one I linked to says, in the first sentence: "General Motors has pushed up the release date of its Chevrolet Volt electric model to October..."

    You are correct, my apologies.
Again, I am just saying I never heard this, it didn't seem to ever be anything GM claimed. Sure, some Volt fanatics may have claimed it, or possibly some editor thought it made a good headline.
I don't see anywhere where the people that wrote the article attributed this statement to.

I do very much look forward to hearing some hands on reviews, especially about CS mode. I am very skeptical they cane reach the mid 30s, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

I remember this article. We talked about it on an episode of What Drives Us | Alternative Fuel Weekly Podcast
    http://blogs.consumerreports.org/cars/2010/04/gm-repayment-of-loans-chevrolet-volt-sale-early.html

It starts with Whitacre talking about repaying the government loans. Then, in the third paragraph, he is attributed with starting the rumor that the Volt would go on sale in October. You're correct in that there doesn't seem to be a formal press release - that I can find. Just people spreading Whitacre's apparently verbal claims.

Talked to one of the marketing guys for the Volt today. He said production starts December of 10. Dealer stocks in Jan of 11. Not sure how true that is because he also said it has a 3 gal tank and suppose to take the Volt over 300 miles when fully charged and fully fueled. I wanted to test drive one today but the line's too long.

Part of the problem with GM is most of the information is rumor.
Ed says one thing but without an actual 'official' notice. Marketing says another, dealers yet another and press releases yet something else.
I very much look forward to getting the wheels on the road so we can get some real world data.

You keep thinking of the Volt as a product, while I think of it as a marketing ploy to appease the Government stockholder and confuse consumers into believing GM has a clue. Last I heard, GM 'plans' to make 5000 a year, less than 2 weeks of Prius sales in the US.

One of my reasons for the thread was that even if October 1st isn't the release date, release must be pretty imminent, yet nothing is out there to reflect this.

Surely if there is only a month or two (or maybe three) before release, you'd have expected some advertising or other to show this?

that's 2 years from now. just in time to fail. perfect. how can the public wait for their chance at an unobtainable vehicle? What, are they trying to mimic the Prius wait lists? Toyota lost ALOT of sales due to the demand versus availabilty. I waited...2 neighbors did not. That's not good for any company, let alone a bailed-out one. get the thing into as many hands and driveways as possible...if that really is the intent...if you really believe this vehicle a 'game changer'. sorry, i just LOL as i typed 'game changer' in a volt thread....
