In case anyone is interested, I received an e-mail from USAA this morning saying the USAA Price for a Prius V just dropped $550 at Marietta Toyota on Cobb Parkway. That's $3600 below Invoice! Example: Prius V w/AT Package: $28,589.00 plus TTL and Doc Fees! That's $5437.00 below MSRP! Not a bad deal for a USAA member in the market for a V in Atlanta. FWIW, in doing my research Truecar.com has followed USAA pricing pretty closly, so if you're not a USAA Member, there are ways to get great prices on Prius!
Right now there is a dealer incentive on the Prius (varies by model - for example it's around $1k on a II), OR you can take the 0% financing in this area. That's what the Atlanta dealers as well as my local dealer (in SC) told me at least. A Prius V incentive could very easily be $2500 which would put it about the prices you quoted above. There's a bunch of these sitting in dealers' lots down here As 0% for 5 years on a $22k car saves you at least $3k over a 3% loan, then it makes sense to take it instead of the cashback IMO. In that case, you should be able to negotiate a 3% profit based on the dealers' invoice (not the invoice shown on the internet that includes holdback, etc) and come out even better. My $0.02. Dave
Definitely seems to be more IV's and V's on the dealer lots here in ATL as well. I still feel the III is the best bang for the buck out of all of them, but hey, that's just my opinion! Regardless, sure seems like now's the time to buy if you're looking for a smoking deal on a Prius! Did they increase the 0% to 5 years? I thought it was only for 3 & 4 year loans... That's free money!
Okay let's use Paul58's example above for a price on a V with ATP. I did a search on Truecar for my area in NC. Here's the data they present: When negotiating with car dealers, a good price to pay for the 2010 Toyota Prius 5dr HB V is less than $32,785 (or $587 above invoice), and a great price is less than $31,965 (or $233 below invoice). (Truecar) If you notice, Truecar represents the DEALER COST for this vehicle at $30,636. The dealer Paul58 mentioned is selling this same V /ATP for $28,589.00. Now, we know that no dealer is going to sell a new Prius where they lose money on the deal. Therefore, I can only conclude that the data shown by Truecar is questionable, at least on dealer cost, because there's a dealership in GA selling this same vehicle for $2K+ less than this supposed 'dealer cost.' And this is why I don't trust Truecar declaring what a 'great' price is for a specific trim level....because obviously, there are even better deals to be had out there!
Moxie, click on the box "Show best price" and you'll get what those local dealers who participate in the Truecar.com program. You will be very pleasantly surprised at what they are selling for. Craig
Here is a Truecar.com price for Atlanta. I searched all over the area and found the Atlanta and Charlotte areas to be the best pricing. I encourage you to contact those dealers and see for yourself. This quote is for a V with ATP. Craig
Lowest Certified Price (Truecar) for dealers in my area: $31,298 ETA: I'm not ready to purchase a new car yet. It's tempting though.
How far is Charlotte for you? I see $28,638 there. All I can say is my experience shopping locally here in Florida is the dealers that participate in the program will do the price quoted for their area per Truecar. I got the Truecar price for my area. They would not match the price I got for Atlanta though. I decided to stay local because I have a trade and the Florida dealer gave a good trade price AND I save $1400 in sales tax! My car is supposed to arrive from the Port to my dealer tomorrow. Craig
Charlotte is 3 hrs away. Atlanta is 6 hrs away. The Raleigh area sucks wrt Prius pricing. They jack up their prices and then add all kinds of extra fees on top of that. Notice that RDU area Toyo dealers (up to 58 mi away) are selling for $3K MORE than in Atlanta, Charlotte, and some other places. Bastards.
Moxie, what kind of inventory do they have in the R-D area? Down here in Florida all the dealers have 12 or more Prius's to choose from. Craig
Mostly IIIs and some IVs. Almost no Vs. A very few IIs as well. I haven't visited any dealers personally--just done random searches on dealer websites for giggles, since I'm not actually ready to buy.
As I've said a couple times now, right now there is a dealer incentive on the Prius (at least in the southeast area) that they'll pass along to the purchaser. It's around $1k for a II, and goes up from there. OR, you can do the 0% for 3, 4, or 5 years! Basically, we got our local SC dealer to honor an Atlanta's dealers very low quote, then did 0% for 5 years, no payments for 90 days, and got a 2 year Toyota maintenance plan. $22,750 OTD w/ TTL for a Blizzard white II w/ mats and tint in Columbia, SC Like Paul said, now seems like a great time to buy! Dave
We closed on our new 2010 Prius III with solar last night and I am pleased with the deal we got. My deal isnt as clear as most because ours included a substantial trade-in. In fact, we exchanged vehicles and my OTD figure was a whopping $2,218!!! Effectively, I paid what Truecar.com stated for my area, in addition, the dealer gave a trade-in value that was KBB and NADA "trade-In" value. I could have gotten the Prius in the Atlanta area for a little less but no way could I have known what kind of trade-in figure they would have offered until they saw the trade. I wasnt about to risk driving 7 hours to play games at dealerships. I almost sold it to carmax then going up to Atlanta to buy but I would have paid another $1400 in sales tax that route. In the end, I stayed local and finally found a dealer that gave Truecar numbers AND good trade-in numbers. I got trade-in quotes with three other Toyota dealers and the OTD range varied from the $2218 I paid to as high as $7000!!!!!! How could that be?????? FYI, our trade-in was a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz Limited with rear seat DVD entertainment system and 26,500 miles. Special thanks to Paul and others who put me onto Truecar.com. It was an extremely effective tool when negotiating and cutting through the typical dealer B.S. Another great bit of advice from Paul was to get your car appraised by Carmax. Its free and took 20 minutes. Carmax will offer to buy your car and that quote is good for 7 days. They provide you with a great Appraisal document to take with you. Another fantastic tool when negotiating a trade. By trading in on another vehicle at the same dealership you save alot of money on sales tax as you only pay the difference in sale amount. In my case a whopping $118!!!! Craig
Craig you are most welcome! I'm glad it worked out for you and you got exactly what you wanted and at a really great price! Picking up a new vehicle that's less than a month old with only 3 miles at a price like that is awesome! I got a good deal on mine, but my build date is 02/10, so it's been around for a while (although it only had 10 miles on the odometer when I took delivery)... You really have a new car in every sense of the word! Congratulations!
Doesn't matter where you buy the car. You pay sales tax based on the state where you register your vehicle. If going to another state can avoid sales tax, neighboring states would drive to Oregon where there's no sales tax.
Cpr, I think I didn't explain well enough. If I went to GA to buy a Prius I would have sold my car to Carmax first. Then, when I bought the Prius I would have paid sales tax based on the entire sales amount of Prius. Craig
Just got a 2010 IV Blizzard Pearl Solar/Navi: $29,258 + 55 doc fee + 2564 tax (san diego) + 408 dmv = $32,286 OTD I live in SoCal. How did I do??
Just became a 2 prius family. Picked up a Black IV with Solar, mats, and tinting yesterday. 31700 OTD with new tags. Oh, and 5yr 0% financing. Shout out to Alfonso if you're reading. -CB
