I have had my 2010 Prius since August 2009, and have never experienced this til now. I had pulled into my driveway and was talking on the phone using my factory-installed bluetooth speakerphone. When I power the Prius off while doing this, the call is in limbo for like 30 seconds before my phone's internal speaker picks it back up, so I put the car in Park and sat there talking. I talked for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, the car started creeping forward and I hit the brake pedal. The car had shifted from Park to Drive. No harm was done, but from now on I'm going to engage the emergency brake too. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
Did you actually see the shifter move to D or did you just feel the car move forward? When the ICE comes on to charge the HV battery while sitting in Park, the car can move foward slightly until it rests against the parking pawl. Any chance this is what happened?
ONLY when I bumped the mode selector.... Best to stop the engine and press the start button and use that mode. This is in the accessory mode. ( remember do not put you foot on the brake. if you do, the ready light will go one and you will be in the same boat.
The ICE did not come on, and I didn't see anything move but the car. I noticed the car start to move, pressed on the brake, looked at the Park button and the LED was off, checked the display, and it was in Drive. I'll have to check but I don't think the BT speakerphone works in Accessory mode for some reason. Also, since I was in the middle of a call, pressing STOP, then START into Accessory mode would have also put the call into limbo for a while, at best.
Depending on what phone you're using, you can probably also tell the phone to use the built-in speaker again to avoid the limbo; then you can turn off the car.
