Rear Camera is no longer working

    Hello,

The rear camera on my 2008 Pkg 6 no longer works. It worked last night when I backed into my garage, but this morning when backing into a parking lot space at work, the display was dark and all that was clearly visible was the notice at the bottom saying to watch your surroundings for safety. I noticed that although the image was very dark, I could barely see the front of the car that was in back of me. The image of the car on the display was moving slowly (frame by frame) from left to right.

Any idea what could be the cause?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you check to see if anything got on the lens? It's on the left side, near the rear plate.

You could also check the display settings. Not sure how it would have happened, but maybe the brightness got turned down to 0. The rear camera has different display settings than the other screens. You have to go into reverse, then hit display on the bezel, then hit display settings on the screen.

Thanks for getting back to me Politburo. There was nothing on the lens and I didn't touch the display settings at all from the tilme it last worked (last night) till my arrival at work this morning. As I indicated the image in the display was moving from the left to the right like an old TV set when the picture rolls up or down the screen vertically and you need to adjust the vertical settings ... in this case, the very dark image of the car behind me was rolling from left to right instead. So I turned the car off ... and then on again several times thinking it would reset .. but is still didn't work.

I just went to my car in the parking lot to try the display settings for the camera that you recommended above. I started the car and put it into reverse and now the display is working fine! I didn't touch the camera display adjustments. I turned off the car and started it again and it worked again. Wonder if this was just a fluke

If this happens again, I'll post an update here.

Wonder if this ever happened to anyone?

    Thanks again!

Is your car still under warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and have it checked. It could be a loose connection.

Hi firepa63 ... I purchased the '08 from a local respectable used car dealer just 2 months ago (on 7/1/10). it came with a 90 day warranty. In my case I would need to prove to the used car dealer that it's not working. Even so Murphy's Law would suggest that it will work fine when it goes to the dealer. I still have 3 weeks left on the warranty so if this happens again, I'll contact the dealer and see what can be done.

    Thanks for your suggestion though!

For intermittent problems like this, take a good photo of the problem when it happens. That should be adequate proof of the failure.
