Rate premiums have some resemblance to driver risk, but the overall profit margin for each company, defined by region, a whole lot more.
We have a 2010 Prius II, 4 days old. Clean record (both spouse and myself; we are in our 40's/50's) - no accidents, no traffic tickets in last 3 yrs. BUT we live in Chicago. Here's what we got just now: $62 per month from Geico $75 per month from State Farm (we have homeowner's from them too) $89 per month from Progressive All with $500 comprehensive/collision. Of course Geico looks best though we'll talk to State Farm to see if they can come down in price. Anyone know which is the best company when it comes to dealing with claims? I'd rather pay a bit more now and have a decent experience later when I really need it. Thanks.
I have been with Farmers for 12 years and they have handled every claim great. I also got my 10 Prius ii on Sunday, clean record, no tickets, with my gf on my policy (both 28) for $84 per month. I live in So Cal so I guess it depends what else you have on your policy. I currently have homeowners, life, multiple car, and business though them. Hope this helps...
I too have a 2010 Prius III with navagation. We are paying $375 per YEAR...but we are in our mid 60ies and live a rural part of Washington state. That with a 100,000 / 300,000 /100,000 with $500 deductable, with a 12,000 mile per year ave. milage. The insurance is with AARP it is Hartford Insurance.............:cheer2:
your insurance quote is terrible. have you tried a different company? I'm only 21 years old, i have 500,000 liability coverage, 100,000 property damage, and a 0 deductible comprehensive, and 1000 deductible collision. i pay a $595 6-mo premium.
Might want to check out Nationwide. They murdered the prices from all of the major carriers for me (geico, state farm, erie, ect.) by $60-70+ my next choice was 21st Centry. My insurance went down $35 for purch 2010 prius versus my 2006 kia spectra. 497 for 6 month 250 liability, 100 property, 0 comp, 500 collision. That is in Pennsylvania.
Have you checked The Hartford’s rates? I’ve been getting my home and car insurance from them for more than 5 years now and haven’t found better service anywhere yet. Rates are pretty competitive too.
I have good coverage and pay about $600 every 6 months with Geico for the Prius and an older minivan. Of course, that means jack freaking squat to anybody here because without my age, area, driving history, etc. who cares? I will say that the 2010 Prius is very, very cheap to insure relative to other vehicles of its age. If the Prius is about $55 of the $100/month a Rav4 was going to cost about $75 and a V6 Rav4 about $85/month. Prius IS a cheap vehicle to insure when compared to others. The people who drive them are typically less likely to get in an accident due to their driving nature.
The many variables that go into auto insurance quotes make it difficult, if not impossible, to compare with each other. The rate is made up of many factors, some of which are: Age Where you live Repair costs in your locale Company loss experience for the model Your personal driving record The amount of liability you choose The deductible you choose Your claims history (which is shared with other companies) Annual mileage Other drivers named on the policy and their records, etc. And, beleive it or not, your credit history Some companies roll together a collection of known information about you to produce something called an "insurance score" which is factored in to your final quote. I am in the 98th percentile for credit score yet was told my rates had been slightly increased due to a credit score deficiency, meaning I did not have the highest score possible! My rates are quite reasonable though, so I can't complain. The best advice for anyone is to shop around.
27/m and 26/f Indiana (less than 1 hour from chicago) no tickets no accidents excellent credit history $500 deductible forget my libability off hand..but its good Home is also insured under same policy Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance 2010 prius ii - $54 a month /$640 a year with full coverage 2010 scion xb - $56 a month/ $670 a year with full coverage
I think we pay more in California due to all the sue happy lawyers/residents and deadbeat welfare recipients. Compared to most cities it is also a very risky place to drive 2x risky does not seem out of line. I just got mine and since I have not been insured for a couple years, I paid $900 for 6 months from esurance. Esurance quoted me $600, however when I went to pay there was an accident on my record I was not aware of. But the dealer would not let me drive off the lot without insurance. An accident where a car backed up on me and the driver hit and run. But I made a claim of $850, when the actual repairs were $500. So if I clean this up I think my rates will drop. I guess all you can do is shop around. There are over 20 insurance companies in California.
You pay about what I pay, maybe just a couple of hundred more. Your deductible and liability coverage are the same as mine, too. Other premiums might be lower due to lower (minimum) liability coverage and higher deductibles. I've always been told that the main reason for the higher rates in Los Angeles is because if you hit another car, the odds of that car being very expensive are rather high. Also included are the uninsured motorists we have in Los Angeles. And the cost to repair. Add it all up, and your rates are what mine are. Dumb Mike
my advice is to stay away from California. Indiana here, state farm ins. house and two vehicles. 100/300/100, with 500 deductible collision and 100 deductible comprehensive $320 every six months.
For insurance premiums and earthquakes, yes. But, I only drive 2 miles to Santa Monica Beach and can have OK temperatures in January to sit out to get a tan. And if it's that cold, I get onto an airplane and fly to Hawaii (sometimes for $300 round trip). Most everybody else is trying to stay warm or are even digging themselves out of the snow. For me, I'll pay the higher premiums. I can understand how others don't agree. If I couldn't afford the premiums, my answer will change as I'd probably move. Dumb Mike
Agreed... discussing car insurance when folks have totally different circumstances and when rates vary A LOT by locale is almost pointless. My insurance rates went WAY down when I moved in San Jose, CA to the WA area. My old roommate's rates when WAY down (on the order of being cut in half) when he set his locale to WA instead of the Los Angeles for when he was interning up here. On my350z.com, they close threads of this nature. Reason given at MY350Z.COM Forums - View Single Post - The Top 100 Common Questions.
Just another price for living in paradise along with earthquakes, fires and mud slides. BTW the traffic ticket should go away on its third anniversary. The insurance company should automatically lower your rate at that time.
You should really try to boost your deductibles up to $1,000. Create a savings account and just park $1k there for emergencies and depending on your situation you could make that money and more in only a few years with premium savings.
My auto insurance went up when I moved back to Michigan from Ohio. Years ago Michigan went to "no fault" auto insurance to keep costs low. Now it is used as the excuse for why auto insurance is higher in Michigan. Apparently the no-fault law uncapped medical claim exposure, so now we pay much more than in a neighboring state. Tom
I wanted to change my current insurance company because I am paying a lot. I live in Los Angeles, CA. Maybe someone can recommend a car insurance company with affordable prices. Please help.
