Since I got my Prius V, i have this noise form the suspension... when i go over a bump, or a hole... It sounds like the exhaust is hitting on something. It could be the brakes too. It does not sound like something is broken, but more like a tin sound hitting on something... If windows are closed the ride is smooth, but when I open i keep hearing this sounds, and its driving me crazy... Is that normal for Prius V because of the different tiers? My Accord does not have any similar sounds driving on the same road every day... actually ride with Accord is way better... Is that normal, should I go back to dealer? Car is 3000 miles only...
It is the brakes. According to the great folks here at PC, many have loose brake pads rattling in the calipers.
Yes - you are right. I did a service check on the Prius last week. No problem with suspension or exoust system. The sound does sounds like the brake pads. It is not coming out at all the time... If the brakes are pressed, no sound... The noice level is different depending on how were the brakes were/are used before a bump on the road... Is that normal for the breaks, should i get it fix? Through the years i changes couple Toyotas, Hondas... and back in Europe was drving BMW and Renault... Never seen anything like that. I also own Accord... the ride is so much better... kind of desapointed... small things like that are really driving me crazy..
From some of the other TSB's I've seen, the recommended fix from Toyota would be for the dealership to apply a thick grease to the pads to help silence some of the rattling. Probably wouldn't hurt to have the dealership try to take care of it for you. -Sam
