Guessing I am the minority when I say I wish it wouldn't go down. Americans only change when it effects their wallets directly, and this just helps delay the inevitible.

As I've stated time and time again, I'm all for higher gasoline prices. It will put pressure on automakers to continue pushing forward with more hybrid, plug-in, and EV development.

Unfortunately, over the past week, the price of crude oil has fallen from US $85 down to US $74 per barrel. Of Course, this is better than a month ago when crude was at $70 per barrel (over the past month, it slowly increased up to $87) - that's why pump prices went up).

Good news is that I just checked and the price is on the rise again due to a tropic storm that just formed in the Atlantic Ocean.

$2.38 sounds like half price to me. Here it's about $4.50.

I wish it'd rise, not so much to force efficiency but as a sign of a strengthening global economy.

Agreed. Let's cut the federal income tax, but boost the gas tax. We need a much bigger federal gas tax -- at least one dollar per gallon -- but it can't be allowed to increase our total tax burden.

When gas is expensive, we save money.
When gas is inexpensive, we just don't save as much.

I agree that curing someone of their addiction should not include making their substance less expensive.
I'm in favor of more expensive gasoline prices for the pressure it would put on automobile manufacturers to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles and the pressure it would put on drivers to purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles and then drive them more responsibly. However, I also keep in mind that we don't have a good enough mass-transit system to support those who rely on their vehicles to get them to their low-paying job. Increased gasoline prices could really hurt those people.

Sorry, but you are not very realistic... Over the years, I've realized one thing about governments - they never have enough of our money. They may reduce Federal Income Tax for a short period of time, but will add other taxes to make up for the loss (like your proposed increased gas tax). Then they will raise the Federal Income Tax. This may sound strange to you but have you ever thought that maybe the best thing for our country is a smaller, more efficient government?????

Well here in CO, it is still $2.699/gal which is higher than the map, but still pretty low. It is fun when you pull in to fill up, and the bladder takes 9 gallons in a couple minutes and the guy next to you that was there when you started is already at 15+ gallons and still going as you drive off.

I wonder if anyone has included pump-time into any "true-cost" situations of gasoline :) If your time is worth money, then pumping more fuel is even more expensive!
