    You mean it isn't? LOL.
Unfortunately, most Americans think popular opinion is what matters. If the majority of Americans wants to believe that global warming isn't really happening, then it isn't. If the majority wants to believe that even if it is, it has nothing to do with what we do, then it doesn't.
Karl Rove's PAC is running ads screaming about the evil "Cash for Clunkers" program (I know it had problems, but raising gas mileage from 12 to 16 mpg is a 25% increase). We don't need to worry about anything except ourselves.

Believe it or not, this has been codified by the bush type right as "responsible science."

    I kid you not.

We need universal use of Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) or HERS Index for homes and buildings so that things are comparable. Otherwise, we are just comparing apples and oranges.

Many invest in energy or water savings, only to then spend the "savings" on something else, with a net increase in energy use. As a culture we substitute oil or water for knowledge, never stopping to realize efficiency and conservation are the keys.

We need to make vehicles comparable by using the term XXX kilometers (or miles) per Liter. "Miles per gallon" does not follow the US System of Measurement (SI) and is not meaningful to most people.

SI is not the "US System of Measurement", it is the International System of measurement, or Système international in French.

I think we should do it properly and go with Imperial units.

It's simple, mate, just 3.78 L/gal US. In the UK it would be 4.55 L/gal.
