My 2010 Prius III has a usb port. Will that now work with my iPod? Not clear from the posts here. Just bought the car two days ago. I will try shortly, but I fear I'm wearing down my battery with all my forays into the garage to try this and that features.

Based on this and your other post, I'd recommend reading the owner's manuals. Good info in there.

Congratulations on your new Prius. :)
I have a Prius IV 2010 and I use my iPod nano in it all the time. There is a list of the iPods that will work with the USB port in the manual. Enjoy the music!

Gen III: My iPod Touch does not work reliably via the USB port to the sound system. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow in hopes that it will be fixed.

Had the accessory USB in the glove compartment, but that did not work at all and was a kludgy design. I had it removed.

    Lynn,

I had a supplemental page in my Owner's Manual Package that went over the USB Operations. According to the documentation, you can insert either an iPod via USB cable or a USB Thumb Drive. They work differently as far as folders and functions...

It is NOT your USB, it is your itouch that is the problem. You need to re-sync it with your laptop and do it again.

Thanks. I synced the iPod Touch, and it still didn't work through the speakers. I tried an older iPod Nano, and that worked for a while but then failed. The USB cables are OK, the players are OK, since they otherwise work, so the problem is somewhere in the car's USB connection to the audio system.

Off to the dealer and hope for the best.

The dealer was able to connect and play the iPod Nano via the USB port but could only connect and play the iPod Touch (2nd gen) via Bluetooth.

That's OK. They work. But it's puzzling.

    Hey guys,

I'm not quite clear on something - it seems that the Navi-equipped cars have an actual 30-pin iPod connector built into the armrest, while the non-Navi-equipped cars have a connection of some kind in the glove box, is that right?

What is this cable for? Couldn't you just use a USB-to-iPod cable, like the one that comes with the iPod?

(Long winded question: Waiting to take delivery of a 2010 Prius "Premium Package w. Solar Panels" and I want to connect my iPod but NOT via AUX/Analogue input.)

Tried digging around but didn't have much luck finding an answer...

you need to update the firmware on your iPod touch. The older iOS versions won't be compatible.

There are no USB ports on non-navi priuses. So you can't just use a standard usb-ipod adapter because wheres the usb port to plug in?? That's what that cable is for, but most people just either replace the head-unit, or use the aux jack.

Hmm, I could have sworn that there was some kind of propriatary connector inside the glove box.

Where does the cable in the link for the cable from the shop connect to?
