I'm new to this forum but I'm hoping someone can help me. My Prius horn is too whimpy. I'd like to put on a train-sounding horn, like I had on an old Buick. Anyone have any suggestions?
That would likely cause a serious reduction in fuel economy. Are you sure you want to do that? j/k. Welcome aboard!
Toyota sells replacement horns which you could have installed by the dealer (or you could give it a go). I replaced mine because of this same issue. I wouldn't say it was a real easy install.
Here is your answer, a railroad train horn you can mount on your truck (or your Prius). Just drill some holes and put it on the hood or one of the fenders. Only $1495.99 what a deal! AirChime K3LA 540 Train Horn Kit
Best solution for the money is two FIAMM Freeway Blasters, one high and one low tone. Makes it sound like a 60's GM car, to me, anyway There's a thread around here somewhere where I posted a vid on how easy the install is - direct bolt-in replacement, no relays, etc. Sound great!
You can upgrade to.... 1. FIAMM Freeway Blasters (almost direct bolt-on) 2. Air Horns (some drilling for new brackets) 3. Train Horn Kit (hmmm...) 4. Cruise ship's blower horn...might affect MPG.
Why are you worried about it sounding whimpy? You are driving a Prius, consider yourself ahead of the game that when you press the horn it doesn't start playing 70's folk music.
That would be this-here thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...odifications/68226-2010-horn-replacement.html But it's not clear that installation into a Gen II would be that easy.
And I was impressed with my Prius horn. If you want to hear wimpy, listen to a Honda Civic horn sometime.
I replaced my horns with the Toyota Premium horns this past weekend and it took about 15 minutes. They was no rewiring needed and they attached to the same place as the originals. The most work was removing the plastic cover.
Had a guy cut me off in city driving, I usually don't mind but this guy literally almost hit me so I honked it long and hard... I think the guy heard it, but I think I could see him laughing... I chuckled too....
