An extreme severe thunderstorm went over my house overnight, and a couple of trees fell from my neighbor's yard. We also lost power for a few hours. In this state, when a neighbor's tree falls on your property, it is your problem. Luckily, I have a nice neighbor to help in clean up...

My Prius III had less than 7000 miles and I just had the 3M Window Tint installed the day before.

BTW, my 2002 Prius (with 150K miles) survived the storm in perfect condition. I also included a photo of this gem. The car is to be given to my sister-in-law in the near future.

Oh yes, I do have a single-car garage ... my wife has it for her Subaru Outback. I *DO* know who wears the pants in my family

That sucks! We have been having a lot of strong storms here lately too...

How bad is the damage under the tree limbs?

Hard to tell from these pictures, but apart from losing your rear window, what other damage occurred to your Prius?

Yikes. A tree fell on my sister's car once while parked at my parents' house. She was in Russia for ~6 months, and had canceled her insurance during that time. Luckily though, the branch was shaped just right to arch over the car, touching the ground on either side. We were able to lift the branch up and back the car out with no damage...

Hey, you all loved those commercials when "nature" awakens as The Prius drives past.

I told you the Harmony between Man, Nature and Machine angle was BS. THIS is the real mother nature...and she will open a can of whoop nice person on a Prius as fast as anything.

Here's a better photo showing the damage to the right rear area.

I have not had an estimate from my insurance company (won't be until Monday or Tuesday), but the body shop manager says the damage is "extensive". Hood, roof panels, entire right side, rear bumper, and part of left side frame are damaged. Interior is also water damaged.

There is a possibility that it is totalled...

Pretty bad. I've attached a photo in a separate reply showing the back side. It was towed to a body shop, and I have not see the "whole" car in its damaged state. I did cut off all of the tree parts impacting the car to allow the tow car to haul the vehicle. BTW, it is cannot be driven because the right rear wheel well is also impacted per the bumper damage, and it had caved into the well.

Pants are uncomfortably restrictive anyways. I prefer the "free range" approach. Unfortunately the less forward thinking restaurants around here have an oppressive "no pants, no service" policy. :censored:

I apologize, I was joking earlier, but I realize for you nothing is too funny about this.

It's too bad, but at least you have insurance and will probably be able to recover.

Body work is sooo expensive, in a way it's too bad. While your damage appears to be extensive, it also seems to be primarily cosmetic. But I recently had a accident where my rear bumper was BARELY scratched...if it wasn't a new vehicle I would of probably ignored it...in the end it was upwards of $1000 dollars simply to repaint, refinish and (they said) straighten bumper mounts.

So I can believe your car will be totalled. Then somebody will either part it out or fix it themselves and make a nice profit or have a nice automobile.

Good luck, and if it turns out your in the market for a new vehicle, try to enjoy the process of replacement.
