Just picked up my new 2010 Prius IV with NAV package on 7/31. I think I did very well on the pricing. MSRP $30,030 Negotiation started at $372p/mo - $333p/mo - to finally $319 $0 down 36 months 15k miles/ year $319 (including tax) $800 Due at signing including 1st month, Reg and Doc fees This was in PA.
Sorry Folks it's a Prius IV with Solar/Nav... $30,300.00 Long Island, NY... I showed the dealer some of the posts here on the forum especially the other Long Island member who got the IV same specs as mine for $500 below invoice... Dealer told me that's a great price but she couldn't match it.. I was stuck with $500 above invoice or walk, last day of the National Clearance so I took it...? Please do let me know HOW I could have haggled to get $500 below invoice...? Thanks!
Good to know about the "walk", I didn't know that they would call and I was worried about losing out on the National Clearance event with the 0%... If on the other hand I had walked out when the 0% first started, I probably would have walked out... *SIGH* I wish I knew about the 0% at least 2 weeks earlier instead of finiding out about it on Friday 7/30.. Bottom line, under the circumstances, I wound up paying $500 over invoice for the IV Nav/Solar/Pearl White @ $30,300.00 what's your take? Good, Bad or Mediocre deal...? Thx!
It sounds like you did pretty well. Maybe, you could have done better but you didn't get ripped off either. The most important thing is you got the car you want. What was the bottom line? Was the sticker 32k and change and you paid 30,300 plus tax etc? Patience is the most important part of the deal. Salesman, "0% ends tomorrow, you've got to act now" best response is "hey, there might be a better offer next month, I don't need this right now anyway."
I purchased my Prius II several hundred under invoice, but got the dealership to bump up the price on my trade. I left happy and had a realistic idea on how much my old car was worth. I'll post up the details when I find my documents....
They always play games with the numbers, if they low ball the price of the new car, they low ball the trade offer and vice versa. The real proof is the difference between the two, if they sell the Prius for $20,000 and give you $10,000 for your trade, you pay the difference of $10,000. If they sell the Prius for $25,000 and give you $15,000 for your trade, you're still paying the $10,000 difference!
Any USAA members thinking about buying a Prius should definitely consider USAA's buying service. I leased mine so it wasn't applicable but I checked after the fact to see what they could do with a purchase. In PA they could negotiate around $600 under invoice and in NJ over $800 under invoice on 30k msrp, with 0% for 36 or 1.9% for 60. The best part is, you have these numbers before you ever speak to a dealer. Another poster mentioned they used USAA and got a good deal. They have access to rebate info not available to the general public and relationships with certain dealers. This is another great service from a great company.
+1, we used USAA buying service last month of our 2010 Prius IV w/Nav. Took the best of 3 offers (all under invoice) USAA buying service provided and emailed the other two dealers asking them to beat the best USAA under invoice priced deal. Ended up with one of the dealers beating the lowest under invoice price USAA offered.
+2! I don't think the USAA deals are awesome in GA right now. We purchsed a 2010 Prius III w/Nav this weekend, the USAA Quote was $3000 below Invoice, we ended up negotiating to $3200 below Invoice!
Just depends on the month. In June...their deals with GM/Cadillac and Mercedes were amazing....An all new Caddy CTS Wagon for over 8g off MSRP!!! I wanted to jump on that for my wife but she felt too pressured  Now the deal is over and the prices are just eh, again. When I got my Challenger at a time last year when no one in socal wanted to deal...but USAA got me 500 over invoice. They do certainly have their uses.
i just bought my prius today, sticker was $30600, got it for $27070, add taxes and california dmv it was 30090 out the door 2 yr maintenance included, i fell ok with the price and process
Regarding USAA Auto Buying Service....I had high hopes before visiting the site. Out of curiosity I selected a 2010 Prius III with no options in red, a car that I would be interested in buying. I plugged in my zip code for Dallas...75287 and discovered that my "target price" is $324 under MSRP. Now I know that North Texas is rough country for Prius buyers, but that is not a very impressive discount. I bought my last Prius in 2005 from an out of state dealership and may have to consider doing the same this time around
Plug in 30127 and see what you get! It might be worth the drive, and Team Toyota (the lowest offer) had plenty of red ones on their lot.
