Has anyone had this happen? 2010 Prius The dash display area has a laminate covering it and it is starting to release from the surface of the display. Dealer says that they have to take the entire dash out to look at it and fix it. I am somewhat apprehensive about them taking the dash out and putting it back for a cosmetic item. I've attached a photo and would appreciate comments, opinions, etc. By the way, I live in Florida and the while interior gets pretty hot but I don't believe that this should be occurring.
I am trying to understand where in your car this is happening. That picture does a great job showing the issue, but makes it hard to determine where on your dash this is occurring. (Edit - Upon looking further, that looks like your HSI display screen? Is that correct!?!?) If so, then I would definitely let them take it apart to fix it, as that would drive me insane. Could you please be a little more specific? If this is a potential issue, I would like to be able to confirm that I do not have this issue as well. As for them taking the car apart for a cosmetic item, assuming the individual working on your car is qualified, you should not have any issues at all, as I've had many taken apart and put back together again without issue.
Yeah. That sure looks like someone poked it or picked at it with a finger or sharp object. Perhaps an accident while washing the car?
Atlas Testing is down in the Everglades and they are a company that tests many products for car makers, as well as many other types of products. They have various car parts out in the field being tested under the South Florida, Humidity, Mold, and Extreme Temperatures. It is because of such testing that our car interiors have the durability and consistentcy they posess. It would be a surprise if such a problem was caused by such temperatures precisely because I have seen these tests myself. As to the repairs the dealer has the people trained to accomplish these things, you should not have any apprehension, and the car should come back to you looking as if it had never had a problem or even been touched.
