So i am writing for my Aunt and her 2005 prius. She had it in for a tune up drove it home and it died. Started up again and was fine after about ten minutes. Now the wierd part. She brought it in to see what happened etc all is fine and she starts to drive home and the odometer is reading roughly 30,000 miles less then when she brought it in...

Anyone seen or had this and know what it is?

Could it be that the odometer reading was switched from the lifetime setting to "A" or "B" reading and that which ever one the reading has been set to has not been reset for 30,000 mile?

    Just a thought.

I've heard many stories of dying Prii. Everything from dead battery (me x3) to collissions. I have never heard of the odometer resetting or changing values.

As captnslur suggests, hit the [ODO Trip] button a few times. Next to the Red Triangle.

What was the exact odometer reading before she brought the car in?
    What is the reading now?

I am wondering whether the problem is just with one digit of the display, or whether the problem is more complicated than that.

I don't suppose that the dealer would have had any reason to swap in a used combination meter with a lower odometer reading than the car originally had...

Here is a recent post where the owner claimed that the odometer stopped recording mileage at 299,999 (but did not provide a photo.) That is the only other complaint I've noticed about the odometer not functioning.

Are you saying the ODO/Trip button has no effect on the display or the actual displayed ODO (not trip A or B ) reading remains at 40K but should be 70K?

Uhh, was it possibly set for kilometers before, and now reads miles? Probably not 'because the speedometer would have been wrong also...
