Switch to Power Mode and you'll never have a problem with tailgaters again.

 

Mel Gibson (one of ya . . . . . ) how ya doin'. Everyone has rage on occasion, but it's important to keep the inside words from getting outside.

 

We have read about companies monitoring internet usage of employees.

I'd love to read about companies with anonymous drivers fingering employees that are road ragers, then factoring it into staffing decisions. It would probably be clandestine as the policy would be challenged, but a good reason to do it is someone that has serious issues on the road might not be a very good employee.

If it happened, can you imagine how much nicer people would drive? It might be more effective than a speed trap.

I for one would like new laws to protect people like us!!!

Excessive tailgating should be considered attemt/ threating to do bodly harm with a deadly weapon!!!!!!!! And for every person in the car thier tailgating the charge should double!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

In MD and I would guess most states, tailgating is considered aggressive driving and does come with stiff penalties (though not as strong as you suggest). The problem is enforcement--you can call the police, and as soon as the <adjective/noun> sees you pick up the phone to do so, he (occasionally she, but almost always he) behaves himself or moves on to harass someone else.

I think a big part of it is that people feel ensconced in their cars--unrealistically safe and anonymous. No one (well, almost) behaves like that while walking on the sidewalk. Probably the best preventative mechanism would be to require everyone to have their name, address and phone embossed on their car. (I wouldn't like that for privacy reasons, but it would work). Barring that, we just have to accept some jerks, and try to react rationally rather than emotionally.

It is just as hateful to pigeonhole everyone who is a Republican or drives a large vehicle (they may need it for work--remember what that is?), or any other stereotypes.

Give it a rest! It isn't just conservatives who are biased. We all are to a certain extent, but it seems that my more liberal friends (and I have plenty of them), just don't get it and think it is perfectly all right to discriminate against people they disagree with, if they are even slightly to the right of Hollywood.

I know of many people who bought Prius's for the economics of it who are much further right than I am.

Maybe that is a reason (not that there is any valid reason), for the nasty reactions to our cars!

A comment a high school teacher would be applicable to these Prius-haters: We must scare the hell out of them. No reason why it should - they got problems.

 

Power Mode will not help in this case. Don't embarrass yourself using the power mode and you will get passed by other cars anyways.

 

And the fact that Power mode doesn't give you more power. It simply changes throttle input required to reach a desired acceleration level.

 

How many seconds does it take from 0-60 with power mode?

 

I would wager it is the same amount of time as in normal mode assuming WOT conditions.

 

Same as the other modes, 10 seconds +/- a few tenths.

Power mode gives you more power that the other modes at part throttle, but the same peak power at full throttle.

The choices are there to give the throttle response a different feel during normal driving.

 

I have yet to use power mode and I have driven on highways. I have no idea why you must FLOOR THE PEDAL as soon as the light turns green or the car in front of you moves. The reason about all these complaints about Prius rattling and parts failing is because these people floor the pedal, use power mode, and drive over every manhole/road gap they can.

The only case where power mode would be useful for is for climbing very very steep hills (like mount everest). I've climbed many hills (some of them were steep) without PWR mode at around 20-25mph. Other Priuses were zooming by at 35-40mph, they get 250miles per tank...I get 650. They have to repair their prius every 2 years, I don't.

 

I don't really think this is a quantifiable statement.

This is not what power mode was designed for. As stated above, it does not increase net horsepower. It simply changes the amount of throttle input required to reach a desired level of acceleration. I.E if you are not comfortable pushing the throttle to 75% to accelerate at a desired level while in normal mode then you can activate power mode so that you only require 50% throttle to achieve the same level of acceleration.

That being said, I drive my car fairly hard for a non-sports car and I have only had 1 repair in 115,000 miles and it cost me $.89 for that tail light bulb.

 

Answering this "power mode vs other modes" question is like playing Whack-a-Mole: once we get it answered in one thread it pops up in another. This must be one of the most common questions and misconceptions about the Gen III Prius.

Whacking this mole one more time: Power Mode does not provide more power. Maximum power is available in Eco Mode, Normal Mode, and Power Mode. If you mash the gas pedal to the floor you get full power in all three ICE modes.

It snowed where I live, the same week I got my Prius. One night, just wanted to drive the new toy, so took it down a snow-covered road, and really enjoyed the peacefulness of nobody being out on the roads, when, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a pick-up truck is right on my bumper! I turned into a development, and the guy sped past, and I saw a really cool house for sale. Couldn't afford to buy it, it turns out, but looked at it the next day. Better than fighting with the jerk, although I've been there, as well.
