This thread is for questions and discussions. I have a second thread dedicated exclusively to my reviews, impressions and ramblings.

On Wed, July 14th, Toyota will deliver a brand new Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle to my place of work.

I will drive that PHV to Green Drive Expo where it will be swapped out for a different PHV. I will drive the freshly charged PHV in the MPG Challenge.

I will drive the original PHV back home where I'll keep it until Thur, July 22nd when I will deliver it to the Mtn. Dew Rally / Event / Something in Downtown Chicago.

    Oh yeah, that's right.

This thread will hold pictures I take and will provide links to video I shoot. If you have questions, list them here and I will attempt to address them all. Keep in mind that I am not allowed to take it apart and I'm not very technical so I wouldn't know what I'm looking at even if I did.

bookmarking this page right now :) I can't wait to see what Toyota's come up with and hear your experience. I figure I've got another 3 years until I'll be out of my warranty on the Prius, at which time i want a plug-in hybrid!

Tony's driving is not what I would call "real world" driving I bet that guy could pull 30mpg out of an H2 Hummer! :p

    Questions:

    1. How hard can you accelerate in EV without its turning on the ICE?
    2. How fast can you go in EV without its turning on the ICE?
    3. How far can you go in EV before the ICE kicks in?
    4. What mpg do you get after the plug-in charge is used up?

    Eagerly awaiting real-world information.

    Very nice.
    Questions
    - Regen on EV packs
    - Other competitors
    - What category were you in
    - Did Toyota watch results
    - Avg speed during challenge
    - Does it have the new IPOD Out interface :)

I considered that but wasn't sure if my little thing qualified as news. When I think News, I think of news articles.

The test drives in Torrance already gave us most of those answers:
    1. I accelerated pretty damned hard uphill onto an interstate onramp and the ICE never kicked in. When Evan was driving, he punched it pretty hard to get up to interstate speed and the ICE never kicked in.
    2. 65mph
    3. ~15 miles. Like the Leaf results, it's up to you.
    4. That's going to be the fun one. Technically, once the packs are depleted, it's a standard 2010 Prius. However, this one is lugging around a couple hundred pounds of dead batteries. All the same, I bet I could get 60+ on regular streets.

Tony, so are you going to be up with me at 6:30 am on Friday to go over and do the live interview with the PHEV at the TV station?

Are you going to be at the expo Sat, Sun, or both days? This may be worth a day trip over there :)

I'm not planning on getting to GDE until Friday morning before the MPG challenge. I suppose that if someone were to cover the cost of a hotel room I could be convinced to head over Thursday evening.

I will be at GDE Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Leaving Sunday late afternoon.

O.k. everyone, time to pass the hat for Tony to cover the hotel room.

We have a hybrid car Cruise In at 7pm on Thursday, would be great to see the PHEV there.

The hotel room is $103 plus tax. <edit, now half price since sharing a room with TheForce.)
    I'm in for $10.
    Anyone else?

edit: shutdown Tony fundraiser. Sounds like it was not necessary. :)

I'm sharing my room with Tony. I got the two queen beds Thursday night through Sunday night. So Tony's stay is half the cost of the room. The extra bed will go unused Thursday unless Tony decides to arrive early. If you want Tony you can come stay the night. But it would be nice if someone could pay your share for the night. If not it wont be going to waste anyway. If you stay or not I would still be paying full price for that night.

Wait a minute. . . 7:00pm?! I would have to leave by 3:00 at the latest. I can't do that, my friend. Just can't. Too much work and too few days as it is.
Possibly, I could leave after work and arrive around 8:30. Keep in mind that I'm not planning on taking the PHV on the interstate. I can drive anything on the interstate; I want to drive this thing on regular roads for the feel and potential hypermiling.

Coming Thursday evening was just to be there Friday morning. I could not make the 7:00pm thing.

    Dang!
Hey, well I still could use some company for the early morning show.
Although in the end they probably just want the car and kick you to the curb. LOL !

Nice! Definitely eager to hear about extended usage of the PHV. It is lugging a few hundred pounds extra but remember that it has Li-Ion vs. NiMH so methinks they cancel each other out. It'll probably get similar mileage.
