Well, my new compact Nautilus Stebel horn came today. Now I have to find an independent repair guy to install it....I don't feel comfortable installing this thing myself. Anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area have any suggestions for a reasonable mechanic to perform this minor task?
Never mind. I've had my Stebel Nautilus installed. Found a place that did it for $60.00 and its even installed with the Relay, so if I ever want the old horns as well, I can hood those up for some real cacophony.
RedBackFur - This is my first post and I'm amazed at how useful this forum is and how much great info it contains. Regarding the horn installation, as I'm also in the Bay Area, would you please refer me to the place that installed your horn so that I can avoid looking for a competent and willing mechanic? Thanks.
Keep in mind, they don't SELL the air-horn...the only did the installation. I brought my own Stebel Nautilus for them to install. http://www.amazon.com/Stebel-Nautilus-Compact-Motorcycle-Horn/dp/B000NPRTII
Hi guys, I ordered one of the Stebel airhorns for my prius too but so far haven't had any luck installing it myself. Would you guys be able to post some photos of how yours are hooked up? I'm okay at wiring stuff but the problem is I can't figure out where to splice the relay into the power in the engine compartment. I haven't been able to find anything online to indicate where you would cut in to the power. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
Just a data point, I found a nice pair of horns from FIAMM, their "Freeway Blaster" series, that bolted on and plugged right into the Prius, and am quite satisfied with the improvement. Maybe not quite as loud as the Stebel, but no relays needed, and installation could not be simpler. The links and video are on pages 3 and 4 of this thread. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...ifications/68226-2010-horn-replacement-3.html
I figured it out by checking out another how to about installing a fog light kit. Will post a short video in a bit for reference.
Here's a link to my video posted on youtube: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_fAM9I4-L4]YouTube - Stebel Nautilus Truck Horn 2010 Prius[/ame]
Just FYI - the same spec air horn (size shape, tones and Db) is readilly available on Ebay - just search compact air horn COMPACT DUAL TONE AIR HORN LOUD 139dB for CAR TRUCK RV: eBay Motors (item 390204253831 end time Jul-02-10 16:01:29 PDT)
That's different than the horn I installed. Mine was the Truck horn model found at this site: Compact Italian Air Horns - Exterior Accessories - Car Accessories - Griot's Garage The horn you mentioned looks interesting though. I might add that to my setup later. Could be quite a sound together
My air horn is mounted on the bracket right behind where the Toyota Logo is....which is where the Radar would be if I had the ATP on a Prius V.
Great idea :mod: - now you can shake up all the morons who cut you off because they don't like the Pruis.
I replaced mine with these as well. Very loud, easy replacement, and about $15 for the pair if ordered from Ryderfleetproducts.com . Need to order one each of "high" and "low" tone.
Please spend the extra 2 seconds and post the link of the two horns you purchased. I found they sell alot of differnt horns. Here is a link of all their horns. Truck Horns from RyderFleetProducts
At the Ryder site, look for the "Freeway Blaster. Here is a link to the "high note" horn: Signaltone Fiam Electric Horn High Note Freeway Blaster 72102-22 Here is a link to the "low note" horn: Signaltone Fiam Electric Horn Low Note Freeway Blaster 72112-22
