Hi guys, I'm new. Don't have a Prius yet but I've been looking into it. Any advice besides what's in the sticky?

My only advise would be to ask specific questions you have. There's a ton of information and it can't be summarized in a way that helps when you don't even post where you're from, how old you are, what you know, why it interests you, what your concerns are....

Glad to have you on board, but it sure helps us if you help us help you.

Make sure you test drive it and are satisfied. Find out all the differences in the models and make sure you pick the one that suits you the best. Looking back I kind of wish I got a II so I could have extra money to customize it the way I wanted. I also wish I didnt buy the carpet floormats because I want the digital fit weathertechs. Other than that its a great car, very happy with mine. Getting 55mpg and loving it. Drives very nice, comfortable for me. Make sure it is for you.

My salesman had me take a 75 mile test drive overnight with a used Prius. This allowed me to get a real feel for the size, comfort, economy and handling of the car. I would get a long test drive or rent a Prius for a weekend.

The more of your profile you fill out out honestly, the better our answers are. as an example, there are tons of window tinting questions, but all 50 states have their own laws, so there is no general answer that is 'best;'. It is similar for HOV stickers or tax incentives. If you are not in the US, it varies even more widely.

As an example, the post above this has a gen III 2009 Prius, the US did not get Gen III until the 2010 Model Year, I am not sure a 'T3' corresponds to any of the models in the US, II thought V. If I did not know the Cabbie was in the UK, I would try to 'correct' his info.

Indeed you are correct, I am from the UK. I have tried to update my profile and signature to state that I am from England. The T3 is the base model here topped with a T4 and TSprint - there is no T1 or T2. The 2009 is purely that it was built in 2009 despite being a US '2010' model.

If I offer my views and comments I do try to restrict it to things I have some knowledge of. No point offering my comments on HOV stickers and the like. I might offer a UK or European perspective on some issues too. Perhaps some members don't like this and wish the forum was exclusively for US members, but equally there are many many worldwide members and the cars are pretty much the same worldwide too. With the exception your steering wheel is on the wrong side :D

One of the reasons I like this forum is the wide, worldwide, variety of members from all occupations and lifestyles, brought together with a mutual interest in a car. And if a newbie is interested in the Prius wherever they are in the world, then I hope my comments, however relevant may assist them in some way.

It's a great car where ever you are in the world. We have loads of diesels here which get fantastic fuel economy, yet the Prius still beats them hands down.

I live in Alaska. The winters here SUCK. Snow tires or extremely agressive all seasons are a must. Meanwhile, the summers rain constantly (except last year somehow). We don't get much of a break all in all.

I would prefer some degree of customizability.

I heard the steering is numb and it's generally a boring drive - any way to fix that?

My inner stupid teenager wants me to ask about making the engine more powerful, but that would most likely make the onboard computers flip out in addition to damaging fuel economy. Still, a Prius street racer is just too obvious with that 0.25 coefficient of drag

(And it would shut up the poeple who say all Prius drivers are "egotistical tree huggers". But that's a rant for another day.:focus:
