    Hi!

I am about to buy a 2010 Prius II with blulogic blutooth.

Apologies, but after reading through these posts I am still unclear about playing music with the ipod function of my 3g iPhone.

I understand that I can speak handsfree through the blulogic microphone and listen through the audio system speakers. I also understand that I may be able to stream music through the blulogic.

But what would happen if I just plug my iPhone white cable into the USB port? What functions would be preserved? What is the purpose of the ipod/iphone integration kit if there is already a USB port?

    Thank you

I am just about to pickup a Prius II this week, but are you saying that the BluLogic system adds a USB i/f? Wasn't aware of that.

I thought there really wasn't any dealer-installed USB solution for the Prius II that would support a USB mass storage device or an IPOD/IPhone. (Just the IPOD Interface kit which isn't a USB interface).

I can play any audio through my blulogic using my Nokia. The iPhone is also equipped with stereo bluetooth so i can only imagine it will work the same way.

Its a little quirky, as the audio system volume doesnt control the sound heard, its a combination of your setting on the bluetooth button's volume and the audio output of your phone. It gets more than loud enough, although not quite as loud as the stereo on full blast. Overall, im pretty happy with the blulogic despite its quirkiness. Would have made more sense to just include bluetooth on the base stereo, but hey, i got the option for free so i cant complain!

Beneath the center console you'll find a 12v "cigarette lighter" socket. Buy a 1 A charger for your iPhone and install it there. (most iPod/iPhone chargers are 0.5 A. Got for the full Amp).

Next, you can buy a short stereo mini cable, and run it from your iphone's headphone jack to a connector under the console, next to the power adapter. This will let you get high quality music out of the iPhone without the hassle of wireless.

I can only address the actions of my Prius V. Other models may be different.

In the V, the iPhone 3g and 3gs will work fine though the white, USB cable as it is connected to the USB port in the center console/armrest. The 'phone will be charged and your iPod function will work as expected. Music will be muted when a 'phone call comes in or goes out.

The only caveat is that, occassionally, the iPone will display on start-up, the message to the effect that the iPhone does not work with the Prius, and, would you like to use Airport mode? Press the "No" response and all will be fine.

I dont think your II with blulogic will have a USB, and it sure doesnt work the same way as the V's system. Blulogic is a dealer installed dongle that goes inbetween the wiring of your stereo and can take over its audio functions using your phone.

The wireless isn't a "hassle" once you have your phone paired. Its a simple as pressing play on your phone, except it comes through your stereo speakers... you dont even have to touch your stereo.

The iPhone can't stream audio via bluetooth, but rumor has it that capability is coming. Not sure if that will defeat the phone BT or what. The phone part works just great.

I've had zero luck using the iPhone or Touch for audio, unless I use the aux jack. The USB thing just doesn't work worth a damn. It seems to have been rushed out without being fully debugged.

I use an old classic iPod via aux, once in a while.

iphone bluetooth audio streaming works just fine from my iphone 3gs to my 2010 V with nav. Have you paired car multimedia (in addition to phone)?

iPhone 3G and beyond can do A2DP music streaming

Sure it can, as long as you have an iPhone 3G or beyond and firmware >=3.0. See iOS (Apple) version history - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I've used my iPhone 3G to do A2DP music playback to 2 sets of Bluetooth headphones and a Lexus HS 250h.

If you have a 1st gen iPhone, you're SOL in the A2DP part as IIRC, the hardware can't do stereo music over BT.

from wikipedia ([ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profile]Bluetooth profile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]):

iPhone and iPod Touch: All iPhones support HFP and PBAP. Version 3.0 of the operating system added support of A2DP, limited AVRCP and PAN for iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Touch 2nd/3rd generation only.[4] Original iPhone (iPhone 2G) bluetooth chip can provide A2DP as well, but Apple decided not to enable it. However, A2DP can be enabled in a jailbroken iPhone 2G by a special utility.[5]

So some early models don't work. If you have later models and nav, it should work. If it doesn't, then try, try again, or get some help from a dealer.

Its working between my iPhone 3G and my 2010 V with Nav. It didn't work without Nav. I tested all of this in the test drive, ended up pairing with a different vehicle and when I finally bought the original one, it took several tries to get it re-paired. I cleared all of the pairings and started over.

BTW - if you have a paused song or podcast and turn the Prius's audio system (e.g. start the car), it automatically stars playing you material. I like that feature a lot - at least most of the time :)

I have a 2010 pkg IV and use the iPhone with it all the time for calling and the iPod function via the USB. The iPod function is a tad quirky and with S/W 3.X you had to only plug it after the car was running plus say no to the airplane mode warning on the iPhone.

I just upgraded to the IOS4 on my iPhone 3GS and it works much better with no issues on startup but now a msg about radio interference pops up on the iPhone and you just dismiss it but everything else works seamlessly.

We have been talking in another thread about having issues with the IOS4 upgrade and getting the USB cable to work. Basically, after 10 seconds or so of being plugged in via USB, the car says that it cannot read the ipod and to check if it is set up correctly. Then the cable stops working until the car is turned off. Several of us have had this issue. Are you able to just plug it in like before and have the iPhone work?
