Ok I just got my 2010 Prius III and took it for a ride and after 440 miles it took 8.129 gallons of gas from stop and go traffic with expressway speed at 70mph with A/C on in 93 degree Florida weather.

Computer said 52.6mpg calulator returned 54.127.

I have Nitrogen in all Tires(Goodyear for $5.00 a Tire) and K&N Air Filter(Autozone Auto Parts $49.99) added before I took the trip.

what type of tires and what type of mpg did you obtain
before the addition of Nitrogen and air filter?

My June 4th fill-up is my best to date.

100% gas at an actual 66.6 MPG over 410.9 miles. HSI indicated 69.5 mpg. I could have gotten it higher but I ran out of time and had to cut it the attempt short.

I've been having to do a lot of short high speed trips with 4 people and A/C on lately so time to do high mileage attempts has been lacking.

I have a 2010 Toyota Prius III - Blue Ribbon. I have +1800 miles of which 1200 was part of a road trip from Maryland to Michigan (2010 May). I haven't upped my tire pressure - I believe I could increase my MPG further if I increase the tire pressure by about 8 psi. To drive efficiently, I try to keep the MPG gauge close to the 100 mark as long as I can. I use the ECO mode most of the time with the Hybrid System Indicator on display to keep fuel usage low. With the ECO mode on, you need to apply the accelerator early when going on an uphill grade or the Prius will start to lose speed rapidly. EV mode can be used to accelerate slowly up to 25mph. I use EV mode to start the car from a complete stop(for a flat or downhill grade). The EV mode is very effective at saving fuel when the car has to crawl along under 10mph in a traffic jam. I expect that my gas mileage will get worst in the winter when the temperature drops.

    city average=58 mpg
    highway average = 60 mpg
worst = 48.5 mpg (AC on, heavy urban traffic )
best = 61.9 mpg (AC off, light suburban traffic)

Just filled up. 479 miles, 8.4 gals= 57.02 per calculation. MFD indicated 59.1. Discrepency remains the same for nearly a year. I sure can't kick, my Gen III sure loves warm weather.

This is my third Prius. I had a 2004, a 2008 european model and My 2010 is a year old. I get an average of 45 - 48 mph on a tank of gas. I have city and highway driving. That is about what I got for my 2004, but the 2010 has so much more power. I love it.

I can do it. This tank started good 300 miles at (64MPG) but I am going down hill. I am down to 59MPG with 520 miles. Next tank will be better

12th tank 46.7 MPG (Calculated) 46.3 MPG (Indicated). Hot temps 70-95F. AC set at 79. Mix of normal and ECO. A few rainy days.

Indicated was below calculated for the first time? My last two tanks indicated has been very close to calculated. Maybe this is due to the warmer temperatures?

It's very doable. You need the right traffic conditions, warm temps, time and practice. I bought my Prius last August. it took some time but I was able to get pretty good results before the weather got cold last year. Winter killed the mpg's but if you go to my Fuelly page in my sig below you can look at all of my fill-ups to date.

Regarding the actual 66.6 MPG over 410.9 miles with the HSI indicated 69.5 mpg, my Dad recently had heart bypass surgery. He lives 55 miles away and I've been going back and forth about 3 times a week since he has not been released to drive yet. I could take the 70-75 mph Interstate but instead I take a alternate route with roads from 45 - 55 mph. It makes a huge difference and only take a few minutes longer with much less stress.

Plus, I think gas mileage 100% of the time. No, I don't pulse and glide and I also do not interfere with traffic by going way slow. I let the other drivers rush up to the stop lights so the can come to a full stop, trip the light so I don't have to stop.

There are lots of things you can do and I learned most of them on this site.

PS, my current tank in progress at +310 miles is at 78.9 MPG. Yes, I'm trying to break my record.

My 1st Prius / Hybrid.... Wanted for many years....

1st tank (450 miles) averaged 53 MPG (calculated) though pretty close to computer.

currently have about 100 miles, running about 56 MPG. Was running over 60 but had my 3 grown sons and 2 golf bags (went to driving range). Wanted to prove the Prius could haul us all there... ANy way, went down a little since I had to prove it has some uummpphh...

Welcome to the board. 50+ mpg is still awesome any way you look at it.

I've been tracking my mileage for the last year and it's averaged (Washington, DC area) 48 MPG, and cost a little less than 6 cents per mile. This is actual mileage: indicated mileage is running around 5% too high on most tanks.

Hot temps 77-97. AC set at 79. 90% ECO Mode. A few rainy days. One 140 mile trip boosted the average.

Fueled up with guaranteed no ethanol 87 octane. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference. In Kansas, gas stations don't have to disclose ethanol content.

Four bikes (one way and three on return) on the roof mostly highway driving 105-115 kph, 65-72 mph (speedometer): 6,2 l/100km-37,9mpg MFD display; actual 6,6 l/100km - 35,4mpg. Usual 6-9% mfd error in my case. Total trip distance 440 km - 275mi.

Edit: One way (four bikes) there was quite strong wind mostly from the back.

Prius has 1200 miles on odometer and is averaging 43 mpg ... I live in a hilly area and noticed vehicle doesn't strain as much if I use premium ... also didn't notice much of a mileage difference using premium. I have 215/60/15 Michelin Hydroedge Green X tires ... they replaced some stock Goodyear integrity fuel max's ... didn't like the way the Goodyears handled on our San Diego freeways ... the Michelin's are much better ... improved ride and handling ... but they are noisy ... tried them at 40 38 psi but the ride was harsh and noisy ... have them at 38 36 now and the ride is much improved and they are less noisy.

Best tank so far: 54.1 mpg actual (479.8 miles, 8.88 gallons)

Lifetime average (since mid-December): 46.4 mpg.
(mainly due to more winter miles than summer, and snow tires with higher rolling resistance)
