For the 2010 model, make sure you display is showing trip A, then shut the car off. When powering up the car make sure you hold down the kpm/mph button at the same time you hold the power button, keep holding the button until the maintaince required light goes off.

Yes, your maintenance required light...if it's on all the time? It means for some reason your system thinks you need maintenance.

Quick question. Do all Gen2 prius have the same "maintenance required" light. I've never noticed it on my 2005 model.

The MAINT REQD light can be found in US Prius starting in 2004, and resulted from a lawsuit where Toyota V6 engines were found to be unusually susceptible to engine oil sludge. As a result Toyota decided to encourage US owners to change engine oil more frequently via the dashboard light reminder.

Prior to 2004, the normal oil change interval for US Prius was 7,500 miles. The oil change interval was reduced to 5,000 miles for 2004-2009 Prius. In 2010, the oil change interval started at 5,000 miles and was subsequently moved up to 10,000 miles (due to the use of 0W-20 synthetic oil), but the dashboard light will still turn on at 5K mile intervals.

I observe 7,500 mile change intervals on my 2004 and 2007 Prius since I use 5W-30 synthetic oil.

Thanks for the info Patrick. I've looked in my manual and cant find any reference to this indicator so I guess it's not included in the Australian model.

"I observe 7,500 mile change intervals on my 2004 and 2007 Prius since I use 5W-30 synthetic oil."
Yes 5000 miles seems like a bit of an overkill when you're using top quality oil. Here the recommended interval for most cars is 10,000km which is about 6200 miles. Personally though if I'm using good quality oil and not driving particularly harshly then I also usually go 12000km (7500 miles) between changes.

We don't have that light on the Canadian Prius even though there are many things we have in tommon with the American version.
