Oh, if the store is crowded enough, they're both likely to hit a few customers. And there's a certain kind of mind-set that feels a few innocent bystanders are a small price to pay if you can bring down a robber.

 

If he carried the gun because of insecurity, this probably won't help.

 

Would this be considered ball ammunition?

Good questions I really don't know but once I have my weapon concealed on my person it's a bit difficult to remove and I'm a bit reluctant to take it off and on just to fit the locale unless mandated by law. Robbery of large retail stores and other businesses low but the same places with disgruntled employees are a different matter altogether. BTW one of the examples I posted was a Walgreens although the incidents are low I don't like playing the odds with my life or anyone else's for that matter. If I did I probably wouldn't bother with fire-alarms or extinguishers because I've never been around a fire in my home or elsewhere. I've had need of firearms at least twice in my life when around two legged critters and more around four legged critters. I had to qualify with both weapons I have on my concealed carry permit and I train or shoot competitively about 6+ times a month. Competitive shooting is with a range officer and any unsafe action gets you booted on the spot. So my gun is always pointed in a safe direction, finger off the trigger unless shooting etc. etc. and these safety steps are pretty much drilled into my head. Obviously not so with Mr. Nonuts sadly, just glad no one else was injured.

BTW, don't depend on the 21 foot rule if your carrying concealed it takes longer to draw and fire especially if your junk is in the way. Stay at least 30+ feet away.

She said it more than once. My quotation refers to her earliest know use of the line, supposedly said to a police officer sent to escort her home from the train station in 1936. She later used the same line in the movie Sextette in 1979. In both cases the line was "pistol in your pocket", not "six shooter" or "gun".

When someone is legally carrying away from home, what are the odds that 'a major retail store' is the only place visited outside that person's home? About zilch for those whose home is not attached to the store in question.

We don't question people for buckling their seatbelts when not specifically expecting a crash, or having insurance when not expecting a loss or claim, or having a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher only when expecting a fire, or voting when there is no expectation that the election will be close enough that one vote matters.

 

At least he'll be shooting blanks next time.

 

It was probably some banger judging by the fact he didn't have a holster and the way he was carrying the pistol inside his waistband. I'll bet he doesn't have the balls to do that again!

A bunch of great examples... of precautionary measures using items that aren't weapons. IMO, there's a huge difference between a smoke detector and a gun - a smoke detector warns you when there's a fire, while a gun can be used to kill/injure people, even accidentally.

LOL! Yep, there is a huge difference. A gun is not only a weapon but can be used to get meat and feed the hungry, send out warning shots, three shots in row is a sign of distress and can be heard for miles. A gun (unloaded) can be used as a hammer to repair something or build temporary shelter, the butt or barrel can be used to subdue an assailant without killing him and it's used in sports (Olympics) or just for entertainment such as shooting skeet or paper targets at the range. It's also used to defend yourself from a stronger assailant and even if you don't have one I guarantee that a gun somewhere, somehow, sometime has protected you. It can even be used to warn you when there's a fire! Just take the cartridge out of the gun and place them around unoccupied rooms. If the room catches fire the shell goes off and since the bullet weighs more than the brass casing the case ruptures and the bullet which has very little power only goes a short distance. The bang alerts you that something is wrong. Smoke detectors (<-- bad) contain radioactive elements or hazardous materials they also use batteries which are bad for the environment therefore, they should be banned!

Trebuchet, when was the last time you used your gun for any of the following:
- feed the hungry
- signal distress
- as a hammer
- to build a temporary shelter
- as a fire alert

 

Seems to me like it'll be easier for him next time, with less junk in the way.

 

I've never used a fire extinguisher or had a smoke alarm, other than for a bad battery, warn me. Using your logic should I now get rid of these items?
