Smart Sushi! I have been doing the same for 4 years. :D

What is your sticker number? About 200 people beat me to it since my sticker number is 2xx, I think. Just wonder how many stickers NY DMV have given out so far.

We just bought our first Prius, and you're exactly right, we should of bought a Prius six years ago. We've been muddling through life with full sized pickups and SUV's. We went from 14mpg to 51 mpg!

It takes longer for the light to come on for some of us folks. Now I spend my days trying to spread the light.

Wow, 11k already! You got a binary digit as well. That means 26 in decimal, if you are into nerdy stuffs. :D

2010 Honda Insight does not qualify for the Clean Pass HOV sticker. That's why you won't see many of them.

Does the NY HOV sticker have an expiration date like that in CA?

The total would never tell you how many cars are on the road with the HOV stickers. Every Prius in a wreck is removed along with its stickers. I sold my HOV stickered 2007 to my relative who lives and has it registered in Boston, another HOV sticker Gone.

Some fellow from Houston, Texas who saw the stickers on my car in the photo's here on Prius Chat, remarked how he didn't like the "Stickers with the writing on them". I had to explain that if he lived here, He'd LOVE THEM, as you and I do.

No, so long as you own the car in NY. The car qualifies for them, not the driver. They identify Very Low Emission Vehicles that even most Hybrids cannot qualify for. The Prius does,:cheer2: and the Honda Civic hybrid does, few other cars. The hybrid Camry's, SUV's etc do not.

Unlike California's HOV sticker, the NY HOV "Clean Pass" sticker is good for only one highway -- the Long Island Expressway ("LIE") in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

But if you use the LIE in Nassau and Suffolk, it's a huge timesaver. Even if you're using it in a "reverse commute" situation like some of us here do.

One thing the California HOV sticker has that the NY HOV sticker thankfully does not, is a serious case of the uglies. When I see pictures of a Prius with that California HOV sticker on it, I have to cover my eyes.

With New York City 'Mayor For Life' Bloomberg so hot on the clean air hybrids, I'm surprised he hasn't let the Clean Pass Cars have the same privledge on the City HOV lanes as well. He's pushed for Hybrid Taxi's especially in Manhattan, you'd think this'd be a no brainer. Plus the Prius tends to take up less space than the SUV's and other cars it'd quickly replace.

Maybe in his 5th or 6th term he'll do it.

I don't like the fact that you have to have so many stickers on the vehicle which is why I never applied. Maybe I'll get the stickers and adhere them when there are more HOV lanes to use them on. Don't forget to get your green EZ Pass for discounts on some of the roads/bridges in the NY Metro area.

I have sticker number 100. I'm on the LIE every day for an hour and I know people who bought a Prius just for the sticker. The worst thing about the LIE is that there are not enough legal exits and entrances.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it was Senator Padavan that prevented the HOV lanes from continuing into his district, which begins at the city line. He held the critical committee chair when the Republicans were in control of the NY Senate.

    Apples vs. Oranges !

YOU are discussing the fact that LIE HOV lanes end at exit 31,:focus: and were NOT extended into the city from that point, I was NOT talking about that.

I was talking about New York City HOV lanes that already exist, like the ones on the LIE as it ends at the Mid-Town Tunnel, lanes controlled by the city right now. Mayor Bloomberg HAS some power over those lanes.:)

Sorry To BURST YOUR BUBBLE !

Strange enough ... it stands for "high occupancy vehicle" ... typically thought of as a car/van pool. But the reg's DO have a dual purpose. Not just unclogging roads, the alternate purpose is to clean up dirty air by removing cars from the road. The hybrid expansion came about when various municipalities wanted to encourage hybrid's cleaner exhaust, and fuel reduction.

Now, hybrids are everywhere ... so THAT purpose (encouraging folks to buy 'em) has gone away. Similarly, taking some of the congestion out of the roads goes away ... when hundreds of thousands of hybrids clog the "high occupancy" lane. So the purpose of unclogging highways almost becomes laughable now days, when you have a ton of solo hybrid drivers in the HOV lane. So ... the only remaining reason to let solo hybrid drivers into car pool lanes is to clean up air quality. Kind of an irony, don't you think?

Even worse, some of the states around DC let big ol' land barge hybrids into the car pool lane. On a good day, a Caddie hybrid MAY get 20mpg ... and there goes ol' senator so & so ... headed into work in the car pool lane ... all by their self. But that's the perk, of being a law maker, right? ;) Anyway, CA hybrid stickers expire the end of this year. I'll miss 'em but I do understand the rational.

I drive the HOV lanes on the LIE every day, and they are not clogged up with Priuses. There are a lot of Priuses, but the traffic still moves much faster in the HOV lanes than in the regular lanes. I save about 40 minutes a day due to the HOV.

It is not unusual in southern California, the HOV lane moves slower than the regular lane, so one poster complains the Prius with single occupant clogs up the HOV lane. Try to drive through 405 on rush hour.

I have seen my commute cut down 20-40 minutes since i been on the HOV lane. The only issues i see on the HOV lane is the buses which i dont think should be allowed there.

I can tell you that I have been less stress driving back and forth to work, Been doing that commute for 8 years now.

Get on at Exit 61 and off at 33 Lakeville Road.

I am one happier guy at night. My family has seen a difference in my attitude. Also I went from spending 85-90 a week to around 30 a week for GAS

Don't you hate it when some idiot drives 55 in the HOV and blocks everyone for 20 miles?
