2010 MPG Stats - Post Them Here

50.6 after over 8000 miles. So far so good!

 

First fill-up, 54.1 indicated, 52 calculated - been learning techniques, so I'll take that for a first tank!

 

Ahhh, warm weather is finally back to stay unfortunately with 20-30 mph with to go with it. This is my best mileage since my 66.1 mpg record last November.

8th Tank 43.8MPG (Calculated) 46.7MPG Indicated. Temps ranged from 40F-75F. Some rain days. The mediocre mileage continues.

 

My 8th tank also, 57.59 calculated, 59.8 computer. Temp range similar to Tony's at 40-80 F. Some rain as well. Commuting in Wash DC area. The area has small hills, stop and go traffic, average speed indicator read 29mph.

For total mileage on the car, my calculated is 54.26 and climbing now that warmer weather has arrived; and computer is 2.8mpg higher on average, which is a 5% variance. So in the ballpark with what others have reported.

 

49.1 indicated calculated 46.33 MPG.

MPG is fairly consistently off by 3 MPG.

I have noticed that when I do a fillup after about 200 miles the MPG is not off
as much as a full tank. For instance 200 mile trip indicated 53 and change and
actual was 53 MPG.

Interesting, I have observed similar. After only 202 miles, I filled up and had calculated of 50mpg and computer read 49mpg (reverse of what you would expect). Then another fill-up with 221 miles on trip, I had 48.2 calculated with 49.2 computer read-out. So, those two trips together averaged 0% variance between calculated and computer read-out. Perhaps error variance does not show up as much until you are deeper into the fuel consumption per tank. Why would computer be accurate for first 200miles then inaccurate for the next 300-400 miles? Maybe it turns out to be simply additive: approximately 1% variance per 100 miles driven. So, at a 500+ mile tank, roughly a 5+% variance. More data needed, obviously.

 

I get 51mpg.If i drive hard with the air on i get 51mpg.If i pay close attention to the my driving I get 51mpg.If im on the highway going 70mph i get 51mpg.If Im driving around town i get 51 mpg.So to make a long story short i get 51 mpg.Oh yes and in eco mode i get 51 mpg.Im happy with 51 mpg,but how the heck do you guys get high 50's????

 

I am interested in the temperature comments. How much does this affect the mileage
ratings? I just took delivery 5 days ago of my Prius IV 2010 with Navigation package.
The computer is reading out a 47.5 mpg at 37 mph. I have only put 260 miles on the car and that was a trip to a nearby city today with temperatures in the low 90s. About 60 miles of the 260 are in town driving, the rest on the highway with up and down hills. The car had 141 miles on it when I took delivery. My very first Prius. I traded a 2005 Avalon that I really loved too.

 

Crappy avg of 42.1??? What the heck?

I am not happy with the fuel mileage on my 2010 prius V. I've filled her up 3x's so far and have only been averaging 42.1MPG. I drive very conservatively (literally driven off the road sometimes) always drive in ECO and try my best to never use the A/C. I also do mostly city driving and I live in texas so its realitivley flat. I don't get it! Plus the temp here in TX is hot most of the time, already mid 90's...

Oh also, does the fact that most of these gas stations use 10% ethanol gasoline adversely effect our MPG?

 

What mileage were you expecting and why? What did you get on your previous car on the same commute and driving conditions? What was its make, model, year and engine (if there was >1 choice)?

If you seriously want gas mileage help and/or determination as to whether there's something wrong w/your car vs. your driving habits or commute, please start a new thread w/most of the questions at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-answer-these-questions-esp-if-youre-new.html answered.

For all we know, your drives are too short, you're trying to stay in EV (not necessarily a good idea for economy), your tires might be underinflated, oil is overfilled, your alignment might be off, parking brake dragging, 12 volt battery low (not too likely), etc.

 

I had a scion xB that was getting 35 MPG with so I was very happy with that. But when I went to the prius I expected more, as apparently I should have. Toyota has said "we designed the 2010 prius so that the average driver will get 50MPG without any special driving techniques."

EV mode is different than ECO mode.

I just filled up today and got 359 miles to 9.1 gal of gas, with a grand total of 39MPG

Please start a new thread, answering the questions as I directed earlier. It's not productive for us to throw out ideas or to tell you if it's normal or not for your conditions and commute w/o more info. Also, specify if that "35 mpg" on that xB was via actual calculations, trip computer or came from an EPA test figure.

57 mpg or 4.1l/100km currently with 400km (248 miles?) on the tripometer.

 

9th Tank 44.6MPG (calculated) 46.8MPG indicated. Temps ranged from 45-68F. A few rainy days. I drove the whole tank in normal mode.

 

54.7 over 7 fill-ups not counting the ambiguous amount of fuel the dealer placed into the car at delivery. Winds have a significant effect on the mileage. Today I showed 65.4 indicated on the way to work in 60°F temp and calm winds. Last week I was lucky to get 50MPG indicated with the 30-40MPH winds. Still very pleased overall with the mileage.

50.8 mpg for 1000 miles, I'm using FuelLog3, Ipod for my
data. 14 miles on odom when I picked up Prius,
made it a point to top off tank a 1014 miles for data.
Retired, so very little city (Heavy Traffic) driving.
