The manual states to turn on the accessory mode, just press the power button WITHOUT pressing the brake pedal. How do I turn it off? If I press the power button again, the engine will start. How do I shut off accessory mode?
Having had a Gen II and now a Gen III, here's my understanding of how it works. Accessory mode. Keep foot off brake. Press "start" once, and some accessories are powered up. Press it a second time (still no foot on brake), and all accessories and dash displays (I think) are powered out. But the car hasn't started -- the dash may just make it look that way, and that may be the source of confusion. Press start a third time (still no foot on brake), and it's back to everything off. At any point in there, if you put your foot on the brake and press start again, start it really will.
Think about the IGN-ON and ACCESSORY modes as duplicating the key switch on non-SKS cars. You turn the key one notch and listen to the radio, turn it another notch and the power windows, wipers, etc. work. Pressing the POWER button without the brake simulates this. One push to IGN-ON for listening to the radio. A second push for the ACCESSORY mode and the dash lights up and the power windows, wipers, etc. work. Third push and you are back to off.
I have learned this over and over again the last 2 days while installing my aftermarket NAV system - the above posts are correct, that 2nd press does seem like it's on but the engine is not running just the a/c and such - since we are used to our cars coming "on" without the ICE running it seems like the same thing as running but it's not.
