Dash Cover Color

It looks nice. What kind of fabric did you get?

When I first saw the availability of these dash covers, my thoughts echoed some here - mainly "Why?".

But in thinking about it, I personally love the shape and style of the dash - but dislike the color (dark gray against the bisque) and the way it attracts dust like a magnet.

I would consider -as Penny's dad mentioned-a leatherlike cover. Which could be available in pleasing colors, not reflective, and not look as if it is an add-on. ie thick and wrinkly. Doesn't look as if anything like this is available...yet.

 

I recently saw this:

2010 Toyota Prius Custom Dash Cover

It's apparently a 'molded' dash cover.

Has anyone gotten this or seen it in person yet?

[edit] Checking Cabela's and JCWhitney show's it's not yet available for the '10...Hmmm.

light colors reflect badly into the widsheild

 

I got the Costco one, in non-velour black. Anybody in the SF Bay Area want it?

As the post above says, light colors reflect in the windshield, so I figured matte black would take care of that.

I don't know about the velour, but the fuzzy nap that gives my kind its matte appearance consists of smooth-sided plastic threads that reflect sunlight from their sides. the result, when direct sun hits them, is a sea of sparkles that reflect back from the windshield as if the whole outside of the windshield were covered in light dust. Which is not quite the effect I was hoping for.

That said, the product is beautifully made and a perfect fit for the dash. And the company calls you up to make sure that you ordered exactly the right fit for your package. They are so nice I don't want to put them through the hassle of returning the product. I'll just eat the cost and consider it an educational expense.

But I strongly suggest ordering the velour.

Veiling glare and staring at dust.

 

I don't consider the glare an issue, and I'd much rather run my dash duster over the dashboard every couple days than look at a carpeted mat...

 

For the life of me, I can't understand why you are trying to turn this into a pissing contest. No one is asking you to buy one of these. To each is own. :focus:
