Hey Chief, this started out as a joke to some prick driving a big truck that evidently couldnt handle a prius passing him at cruising speed. Im actually big fan of dodge trucks, I just thought it was funny that his ego couldnt take it. But I guess thats how most people are that drive trucks like that and could care less about anything around them...and dont talk to me about "racing", Ive owned a 93 corvette, 91 Z28, 85 trans am, and a 1977 porsche 911 and yes, the prius can and will SMOKE a dodge diesel red light to red light. So if I were you, I wouldnt let my "big truck ego" jump on a prius!

You're right Chief, I probably should have just let it go but I was so impressed that my little prius was keeping up with the big bad nice person dodge that I couldnt help pointing and laughing as I passed him.

IMPRESSIVE!!!! - not . . . I'm pretty sure my Lexus IS350 would blow the doors off of any of those cars.

Big truck ego aside, you're wrong again. According to published acceleration statistics, the Dodge is more than .5 sec faster to 60mph - and that's for bone stock. Most CTDs are running chips, programmers and/or twin turbo packages. Some get 1/4 mile numbers in the 10s.

That's it! I'm done with this thread.

Those kinds of trucks are largely sold to guys with penis-inferiority complexes - very few of them are used for actual work, just as few SUV's ever go even partially off-road.

As for the top speed, they're not aerodynamic, diesels are better at low revs (and geared accordingly), and it's possible the engine had a limiter. Wouldn't be surprised if it couldn't do much more than 90 without red-lining. Wrong tool for the job, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the report, BB. I almost always drive at the speed limit on a freeway, but occassionally have to crank up my G2 Prius to pass. I wish that I could do it legally more often! I love how at highway speeds I still have enough oomph left in the Prius to easily accelerate and pass other vehicles, even when merging onto a freeway and going up a hill. It's even better when the traction battery has a full charge.

The instant torque from the electric motors is really wonderful to experience. Not up to the level of a Tesla, but still somewhat impressive.

It's probably a bit of a surprise to those motorists who only see Priuses dawdling down the highway (the way that most Priuses are driven), when they see one accelerating briskly.

I drag race my Prius in the 1/8th mile on Friday nights, even getting into auto-x too. You would absolutely be amazed by the level of response Prius racing gets, people love to see hybrids going down the track or dodging some cones. I see nothing wrong with hybrid motorsports, either way you look at it, its exposing hybrid tech to the masses. Some of you need to get over the thinking that the Prius was only designed for FE. You can have fun in it to!!!
