Although I didn't have any increase in valve train noise with my Prius while running Mobil1 0W-20, the noise was VERY obvious in my FJ during milder temps. Once the cold weather hit, then the noise went away

I'm not sure what I'm going to do for my next OC at 10k miles....
I dumped the OE Toyota oil @ 1K, did an UOA (posted on PC somewhere), and re-filled with Mobil1 0w20.
ITMT, I read about the Toyo oil, and the large quantities of Moly it has, vs the M1 which has very little in comparison.
So I dump in 150ml of LubroMoly and called it a day.
I've attached a chart, w /links, to some VOAs that I am using to figger out what I want to do next....
I'm at ~6k miles now, and will change at 10k, which will give me a 9k OCI on the M1......
I'll do a UOA then again also, but I've got 4k miles to decide on the fill oil........

BTW...open the link below with Wordpad or Word........

Has anyone had any experience with Castrol's Syntec?

My '10 Prius has just shy of 6K on it now and considering availability, lube quality and warranty requirements I'm leaning towards the Syntec 5W20 and Purolator filters. The coldest it ever gets here is -10C and considering the pour point of synthetics I can't see an issue with either low temp lubrication or fuel mileage with a 5W oil. I plan on sticking to the 8K intervals - I've always used 5K on my previous vehicles.

I don't have much trust in the dealership. If you want it done right, do it yourself :).

Not sure why you would want to change the factory oil so soon. OTOH, based on UOA, I changed the factory oil in my FJ at 3,000 km as it was clearly shot

Just the made in Germany Castrol Syntec 0W-30 you can easily find over at Canadian Tire. It's a good oil
