I leased a silver 2010 Prius III bought last July. It's on a 48 month lease with $345 per month (12K/yr). I have 8K miles on it. The sales guy called and asked me if I was interested in a brand new Prius with less or no money. Long story short, a day later, I traded i my "old" Prius for a new one. With $750 cash (first month payment included in this), here's what I got: - they waived the damage fee (I had a a bunch scratches and slightly broken front bumper in my old Prius) - a brand new 2010 Prius III (red) - complementary 2 year maintenance program - $340 per month lease ($5/mo less than before) - 36 month lease (I had 40 month left on my last lease) Not sure if it was a good deal. But I was tired of the Silver color and my wife really likes the red. And the 2 year free maintenance is at least worth the $360 cash difference that I'm paying... My "old" Prius is an early 2010 and the new one seems more solid and have less rattles (so far).
The dealer isn't doing this as a favor to you. He is going to make money in this deal one way or another. Remember the selling party is always looking after their interest, not yours. Keith
Sure, of course the dealer does it for his/her own benefits. Sales quota. Hold back. Who knows. This has a lot to do with the March incentives (both the lease specials and the "Loyalty" 2 year free maintenance). For those of you (me included) who complaint that Toyota only offers the 2 year maintenance to new buyers, here is a way to get a new car and 2 year maintenance at no almost extra cost...
wow.. not a bad deal on your side for a colour change! I just "sold" two Toyotas myself (not Prius though.. one Corolla, one Matrix) cause two of my friends were looking for cars.
2 or 3 oil changes shouldn't cost $360. I don't believe Toyota is going to pay for all that stuff the dealer tries to upsell.
let's see: you were down to 31 months left, so he added 5 months, you knocked off 8000 miles, you gave him $750. value of waived damage fee? will this one get scratched? value of maintenance program? $5. x 36 mos. = $180. you get "upgraded" prius in preferred color, complicated transaction, i think it's a win-win but we should get diane whitmires opinion, queen of leasing.:cheer2:
maybe the dealer had somebody lined up whom was realllly wanted to purchase a slightly used prius filling his cars description.
They could only 'wave' a fee if you didn't pay for it, which you did, so you paid $750 to pay $5 less per month for fewer months with a couple $30 oil changes.
A couple of synthetic oil changes plus other maintenance stuff won't be $60 at the dealer (but won't cost $360 either). However, it isn't a bad thing to do to unload a damaged car in a color that you're tired of, and may even become a wash if they were going to charge a damage fee at the end of the original lease.
Where do you get a $30 oil change. DIY? The Prius use synthetic oil. My last 5k maintenance was $115.
A few of the auto places have sales on Mobil1 0W20 and a filter for $30. Most Lube Stop like places charge $20 or less if you bring your own oil and filter. That is $65 cheaper than $115.00. Walmart has Mobil1 0W20 for $6.15 a quart ever day price.
