No, I don't own a Prius So, do most Gen3 owner's have rattles in the cabin?? Guess what? I don't have to own a Gen3 Prius to share my experiences with the car. I've driven them over 300 miles so far, and that's more than some owner's who drive home from the dealer and say 'oooh, it's great, blah, blah ......' Then, they're never heard from again. I'm not going to wait 'til other owner's really pipe up about the low-hanging rearview Homelink mirror so it ends up the same in the Gen4 car. And my 2009 gets dash rattles from time to time ... the driver window rattles when opened about 2 inches.
I have the dark gray cloth on my 2010 Prius III. I thought originally that the cloth may not hold up as others have said. 7 months later and sliding in and out of the drivers seat it seems to be holding up well. Only time will tell. When it looks like it is getting worn, I can run my hand against the grain and it stands right back up and looks new. Grumpy's cab should be the best indication with people getting in and out all day long. And by the way, no rattles on my Gen III. So contrary to some popular beliefs, not all Gen III's have rattles.
On the subject of the cloth- I'll just clean it the best I can, and recover when/if I need to. Scotchgard seems to help, but I have talked myself out of obsession- especially with two young kids! Noises: I have rattles during cold temps (below 40 F), but when the weather got to the "balmy" 60's last week here in RI- no sound (contacted/expanded plastics). I have had three Toyotas (wife's car is an '05 Camry, had corrolla wagon and a pickup 20 years ago), and I stand by Toyota. All I did was change oil and tires, and each car got 180,000+ miles. I have 72k on the Camry, and so far so good. I am betting my gen III Prius will go the distance. BTW: New York Times warns of $3/gal regular on the horizon.
The pleather/leather I bought looks and feels great, the Sheepskin I saw looks like they belong in the 70s. If I want to build a Scooby Doo wagon, I will get them
I got my Prius in May, and wrote in at the time that the cloth (dark gray) seemed nice, and that I liked the feel of it. Ten months and 8500 miles later, it's doing great, and I still like it. I'm one of those who prefers cloth to leather. I do cover the rear seat with a blanket when the dogs are in there.
anyone know how much dealerships are charging to install leather seats on your prius? Are they good quality? let me know please
A local dealer quoted me $1300 with seat heaters, and $1100 without on a 2010. The dealer said it the same used as OEM, but I very highly doubt that. The dealer didn't say what brand it was. I had Katzkin leather seats installed on my Gen II, and they look great. Lots of attention to detail, and my cost was increased by some options such as contrasting-color stitching. They are a little more costly than their competitors, I think about $1500 out the door including sales tax, and including seat heaters.
OEM leather seats are available as a dealer-installed accessory in Canada for Cdn$1,975 including two-stage heat (which still boggles my mind. How can a factory setup use single-stage heating yet a dealer-installed one can have dual-stage?). It is OEM, I have seen it BUT it's only for the seats. The door panels, centre console lid and steering wheel are not wrapped in leather. Price includes installation. Still a bit pricey given Katzkins can be put in for a little less and you have more options for design.
My sunroof/upholstery shop will install Katzkins on my Prius for $1000. I don't know how much they would charge to add heat to the front seats.
I paid $450 for mine, plus $55 for one heater on the driver side. It was as simple as laying the element under the covers
hey guys - im in new york too. i just joined the boards in search of some katzkin fans. i ordered a kit for my prius las week and getting an install for $1k on monday. not sure if this will help anyone out but i got the seats from shopsar.com - then, they will be doing the install for me (superior auto restyling in westbury, new york). the kit just arrived this morning so im pretty anxious to see how it looks... been lookin at prius pictures w/ katzkin kits all morning LOL.
Hi paulie, Thanks for the tip. My sunroof/upholstery shop on Long Island also quoted me $1000 last year for katzkin or Roadwire leather installed on my Gen II Prius. Here are its coordinates: Sun Line Sunroofs (ask for Bud or Jeff) 112 Bangor Street Lindenhurst, NY 11757 (631) 956-1910
That's what I have. I will do the install for you for $250 bucks It took me freaking 7 hours to do everything though. It's not hard, just very time consuming. I am more of a leather person, sheepskin reminds me of a 70s VW van
If it is the same as my kit, I think the door panel kit means the part between the rear seat and the door. I don't think it comes with the one on the door itself Clazzio Seat Covers - Bean Garage
lol sure. As long as you pay for the plane ticket to come here and bring and install the leather interior.
