First of all, let me say that OMG I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my 1st Prius ever. Perhaps I'm a newbie that don't know anything, but when I was parking the car earlier (the street was very quiet), when I step on the brake I can hear some sort of rolling noise coming from the back of the car. And this noise has been consistent. I moved forward/backward many times just so I can brake, and I have been able to produce the noise every time I brake the car. The noise is like a mechanical/machine/robot sound where something is rolling into another or something like that. The noise is very soft. It's probably only audible when it's dead silence out. Is this normal?
Check to see if you haven't run over the neighbor's dog. Just kidding... but you might just take a peak underneath to see if anything is there. Welcome aboard and try to relax. This car makes all kinds of odd noises. If anything is wrong, Toyota will fix it. Cheers and welcome aboard.
Mine makes no noise. Look in (and under) the cargo and spare tire area for something loose that is moving or rolling around.
I just got a new prius a few weeks ago. I love the car as well. My car makes though noises with the brakes as well it could be just bc he car is new. My corolla did that when it was new and same with the Camry. It goes away after the car gets broken in or you can have them lubricate the brakes as well. It's normal.
Took it in to the dealer. Turns out it's just the full tank of gas sloshing around when I step on the brake pretty hard. When I let the car roll to a stop, I don't hear it. Thanks for the advise guys!
i just got a new 2010 prius a month back. when i brake, it doesn't make a noise. but if i'm stopping, it'll make a whirrling type of noise as i let off the brakes just before i come to a complete stop... i assumed it was something to do with the spooling of the regenerative braking system.
This is what I hear in mine, most prominently when I'm at low speeds and coming to a full stop. I thought this was the regenerative brake or the regen brake switching to friction brake. Maybe it is just the electric engine winding down (sounds like a BART train stopping or starting *subway train for those not from the bay area) Thoughts?
i noticed that noise also its a new sound i never heard any car make before , then again its not like other cars. i think its supposed to be there! one thing though, you got to be a engineer to understand this car!
In the UK it comes with a DVD which lets you hear and describes the new noises it will make. It doesn't talk about the high pitched sounds from the motor controllers and motors themselves, but i can perhaps only hear them because i'm still young... I quite like the new noises.
