Just turned 20,000 on my 2010 Prius. Was bought new Sept. 14 2009. I drive 95% highway in New England and have always logged an average of 49.3.

My trip last week was 880 miles in one day. With a 20 mph head wind on the way to Buffalo, and a 15 mph tail wind home with the cruise set at 73 mph, I still averaged 49 mpg! Cheers!

Just kept adding it up in my mileage spreadsheet. I sit in my car while my daughter is at dance class and do work on my laptop.

According to the Prius IV monitoring system, the best we have done on a trip odometer is 57.7 MPG. Currently we have 6089 miles on the 2010 model.

I'm getting a slightly disappointing 42-43 mpg over 3000 miles. That's actually, computer reads 2.7mpg high.

Milage is good on the highway and longer trips. I have many short hilly trips that bring the average down. If there are sugestions on how to improve mpg I'll try them.

    1) Up psi to max shown on sidewall, 2 psi less in the rear, unless loaded.
    2) Combine short trips, going to the furthest one first and working back (minimize cold engine time).
    3) Conserve momentum by watching ahead and planning not to use the brakes where avoidable (accelerate normally, but to a lesser top speed based on looking at impending stop ahead)
    4) Don't coast (foot off gas), but glide using the HSI to direct your throttle so regen is avoided.
    5) On hills, if you are in traffic, pulse up and glide down so your speed is within a narrow range. If all alone on the road, try pulsing down and gliding up with battery assist as needed (ok, granted, your hills are bigger than mine, but try it). Speed range is huge, but you are all alone so who cares.
    6) Read Hobbit's The Tao of HSI here: HSI
    7) Read Hows & Whys at cleanmpg.com, along with their Prius II article and see their update for Prius III.

    Good luck.

it was a gorgeous day Saturday, so went to one of those brushless car washes and without thinking, went thru it without removing my grill blockers. so i have exactly one piece on the top and one on the bottom left. (was 100% bottom 75% top). my tank is currently 56.2 mpg (real mileage around 50-51) i am tempted to leave the block out just to see the difference.

went to work today, and normally my RT figures run between 51-55 mpg. today was 48.3

well, looks like grill blocking will be back in REAL soon!!

It's been above 0°C all week since the Olympics ended. 4.2L/100km showing on the MFD... so it's probably like 4.5L/100km actual. Halfway through the tank, 467km in. Grille is 85% blocked at the bottom (I lost one small piece and haven't gone around to replacing it since it's been warm.)

I am new Prius owner as of Feb. 15, 2010. Still learning driving techniques. My first fill-up after only 202 miles was just 4.04 gallons (50mpg). Second fill-up after 320miles was 6.4 gal (again 50mpg). Third fill-up was at 221miles, 4.59 gal (48.2) gals. All of these mileages were city commuting Wash DC area and weekend errands in town. Feb and early March cold weather, so I am pleased. Now that it has warmed slightly, the MPG gauge is currently reading 58.1 MPG. I am anxious to fill to see actual mileage. Average speeds per trip are ranging 27 to 28 MPH. So far, I would say shorter trips and colder weather reduce mileage the most. Oh yes, with one big exception, my 19 yr old son--he clearly reduces it more than any other one factor or all combined. Grin

Bought 2010 Prius II late November 2009; door indicates assembly was 09/09.
    Through early March 2010:
    Miles: 6036
    Gallons: 138
    MPG: 43.7
[The computer indicates 46.3 MPG--computer error has been consistently about +2.6 MPG]

Most driving done on Interstates where 70 is the limit.
Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed, but not horribly so.
