I'm not sure if CR has made these available w/o subscription to their web site in the past but I figured I'd post them here.... I think of particular interest to PriusChatters would be these: Best and Worst Cars Best & worst cars review, fuel-efficient vehicles Best & worst cars review, best city/highway mpg Best & worst cars review, best & worst acceleration
Prius has the best Highway MPG. It even tops a compact Golf TDI with manual transmission that runs on the fuel containing about 15% more energy. eCVT is superior than the manual even on the highway.
How do they manage to get 32 mpg in the city (Prius)? My lowest tank of all time was 40. It has to either be really really cold or everywhere they go is uphill.
I found the "ownership costs" listing the most interesting - and yes, the Prius tops there also (for wagons/hatchbacks), almost beating the mini Cooper but not reaching the same level as the small car category winner.
See my the links I posted at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...r-choice-buying-2010-prius-5.html#post1072368.
44mpg combined seems too low, how did Road & Track get 54mpg? I mean different magazines will employ different driving techniques but by such a wide swing? Doesn't seem feasible.
See my post above yours for some details about CR's testing. Their city test is quite harsh. They definitely do NOT try to drive any vehicle in any special way and don't use trip computers. They gave the 2nd gen Prius (04 to 09) 35/50, 44 combined and people here have griped that's too low as well. I can't speak for Road and Track though.
One thing about the CR city fuel economy, you probably won't get as bad. Some 4 cyl "economy" cars they managed to get 14 mpg city!
