I know they're both different kind of cars but has anyone driven the honda crv 2010? How do they compare in speed and handling, and fun factor?

CRV will be manual here. Maybe in the US it is Automatic.

I was so excited about the new CRV and was expecting to switch to CRV when it first comes out, but when I found out it is manual I was so disappointed. Hopefully when it does come out it will give the automatic option because I don't want to drive manual any more.

Yes high way cruising is crap but it is acceptable.

I don't think they make manuals in the US. Correct me if I am wrong. But, I had a 2007 which is the current model and it was a nice car. I kinda wish I had it, but as a second car. It was fun to drive and the AWD helped in the winter here in Chicago.

It's a Civic based SUV, how fun can it really be?

If you're going with a CR-V, make sure you get the EX or up model. I test drove an LX and aside from the cheaper looking interior/exterior it did not feel the same behind the wheel as the EX, which I got to drive when my cousin bought one. Worlds of difference.

Honda CRV gets 21 MPG city and 24 MPG highway
Toyota Prius gets 51 MPG city and 48 MPG highway.

You will use more then double the gas driving around with the CRV compared to the Pruis.

It happened that I own both a 2009 CRV and a 2010 Prius. Although I have not looked at the 2010 CRV, a quick look caused me to think that is very similar to the 2009. When we looked at these two models as a purchase in the Clunker Car Program in July, my wife chose the CRV over the Prius. When my 2nd car had real problems, I replaced it with the Prius in October as a result of my test driving the Toyota in the summer.

There were three reasons that my wife chose the CRV for her car. She wanted to drive around our 3 grandsons in the back. The CRV has just enough room for that, but the 2010 Prius was a little bit smaller space and the rear seat does not really allow for comfort in the back for three children. I do not think that a 5 person family is suited for the Gen III Prius, although you can make-do. The 2nd reason was the difference in viewing to the rear for car and rear collisions. The Prius has a bad blind spot to the rear side and seeing in the rear view mirror is really bad because of the split view by the rear spoiler. It does not bother me as much because I have learned to be more dependent on using the side view mirrors, since I have driven pickups hauling big trailers. The 3rd reason was the better lumbar support in the CRV in the better seat package. She did not like the uncomfortableness for her back in the Prius seat. She has a typical feminine curvature to her lower back. As a passenger in the Prius seats, she does not mind being driven while she uses pillows.

Overall, my wife has really enjoyed the CRV drivability. It has a tighter turning ratio than the minivan that she drove that was replaced by the CRV. It has a bigger cargo carrying capacity than the Prius, and we sure have used it with the large dog crates that we use. It holds the road well. The CRV is meant for more back road traveling since it has larger wheels and has more clearance underneath. I personally like driving the CRV because it holds the farm-to-market roads better in Texas with their uneven pavements. The CRV is better suited for camping trips than the Prius.

My wife does not drive the Prius. I personally have a "blast" driving the Prius because I am an engineering-type. The technology in the Prius is amazing. Toyota has done a better job with this hybrid model than the other hybrids that I have seen. It seems to have a tighter turning ratio than even the CRV. On paved roads, the Prius responds a little bit better than the CRV because it has a more luxurious feel in the interior. Although OK, the CRV does not have as good a noise isolation from the typical road noises. Neither model has much pep (acceleration), but the design was never intended that way. I bought the Prius mainly for the mpg and have not been disappointed with the results that I am getting. I had been worried by the lack of enough of power in the CRV's 4-cylinder engine, but it has proven good enough, even when it has been loaded.

To me, the brake problem that has gotten so much press, is a "mickey-mouse" problem. Because of the way that I do my braking, I have never noticed the brake lull when the ABS brake system kicks-in. I have driven over plenty of slick and bumpy roads. The Prius does not have much clearance underneath, and the front end bumper scraping the parking guards in front drives me nuts. However, you learn to adjust to its height. Oddly enough, the Prius has made me a more careful driver because of the difference that I drive it to maximize the mpg.

The increased interior size in the Gen III Prius has made a big difference to me. It seems like a bigger car than the Focus that it
replaced. The Prius is a true 4-5 passenger car with its roominess. I have been pleased with its cargo space in the rear.

I had to purchase a 2009 car for my Brother (who was a little down on his luck). I seriously looked at a CRV for him and a Subaru Outback 2.i premium). In the end I bought the Outback but I thought the CRV was very nice. I especially liked the driving position and it did have a "fun to drive" factor. The Subaru was just a little more car for about the same money.

Excellent comments, Lonestar. We bought a new 2003 Honda CRV and a new 2010 Prius. Based on our experience, everything you said is "spot on."

BTW, I keep gas mileage records on all of our vehicles. The CRV has averaged 25.09 mpg since we bought it, and the Prius has averaged 50.33 since we bought it.

2010 CRV here in the UK is very expensive, especially for a Honda - top of the range diesel auto is £30,000 with the range starting at £20k whereas the Prius tops out at £22,500 (although evidently a different style of car altogether).

I was considering a diesel CRV, but inspite of the previous 2.2. C-Dti's refinement and power, they replaced it with the noisier and dirtier i-DTEC diesel from the Accord which emits between 171g/km and 195g/km of CO2 which isn't good enough in terms of emissions or tax - the Prius is tax free and the CR-V diesel would cost up to £215 per annum.

Mind you, I had been a Honda owner for the last four years and had nothing but positive things to say about the experience despite the four recalls my car went through :)

I have yet to feel the Prius STRUGGLE on the highway. I can go pretty much any speed up to about 85 without issue.

We both drove a 2009 CRV before purchase of the Prius and the Prius won without a doubt.

You simply have to decide if you want a car or SUV. The CRV does NOT have a lot of power and felt more anemic than the Prius.

Sorry I think I got mixed up between the CRV and the CR-Z. Earier I was refering the the CR-Z, the new sports hatch and not the CR-V. I love the CR-Z looks so hot.

I like the refreshed Element front end. I saw one in Omni Blue Pearl and thought that would be the only color I would ever want the Prius to be other than Blizzard Pearl.

We all still have an ace in our sleeve with the PWR Mode too, never had to use it once yet.
