Touring Suspension Parts Research

    Note that if you got front struts in the package, they're not any different than the front struts already on your 08.

    Tommy, Tom is absolutely correct. You do not need the front struts/springs for you model year. Also, If you plan on doing the front sway bar yourself, please let me know if you need any pointers or tips. Have fun and enjoy!

    Thanks guys, i will definitely let you know when i have questions! the package didnt come with front struts, but it did say

    suspension components to upgrade your Prius to the Touring Package.
    The complete system includes the upgraded and heavy duty front sway bar, H.D. rear strut set, and heavy duty springs.


    so i should be all set! i will keep everyone posted on my progress!!

    I hope the package also came with the heavy duty (wider) Touring rear sway bar.

    a little inquiry here......

    are the rear springs for the touring prius and standard prius inter-changeable? or do I need the touring rear suspension to fit the rear touring springs or with it fit the standard prius rear suspension?

    If you are asking (by your term 'rear suspension') if the touring struts, springs, and sway bar will fit the standard prius rear axle assembly, then yes. Both axles from both models are the same. All the parts drop right in the car with no modification. You should change the spings together with the struts, as they are a 'tuned' package. However, the touring spings would physically install onto the standard struts, but I'mn not sure what this combo would do for handling.

    thanks for the information.... the reason I ask is because I'll be ordering some lowering springs in Japan and the part #'s are different for a standard and touring prius... the difference between the springs is the amount of drop..... the springs with the note that are for touring gives a little more drop than the springs for a standard prius..... and me having a standard prius and would like a little bit more drop would go with the springs that are for touring (that is why I asked if they are interchangable)... I have the TRD sportivo suspension at the moment ang would be using the TRD suspension w/ the lowering springs.... anyway, thanks again for the info.....

    You would almost certainly be better off performance-wise and dollar-wise buying Eibach progressive springs and their front and rear alignment kits to compensate for the lowering. Eibach provided the progressive springs used in the Prius that holds the records at Bonneville salt flats. Also get good gas struts to replace the slow acting factory oil shocks, since all progressive springs have a faster rate. Although they will lower the car, it will be less likely to bottom out or scrape since progressive springs greatly resist hard compression.

    Hello All,

    I am resurrecting this old thread because I have been looking for the ACTUAL Part#'s for a week now and can't find them freaking anywhere!!!! Getting annoyed beyond belief with it.

    I have 2006 "Base" that I am going to upgrade to the touring suspension so am researching it. I am also going to replace the front shocks and springs as well since my car has 185,000 miles and is certainly due. Yes, I know that the Touring and Base use the same parts for the front and have listed them as such. The only Part#'s I have come up with are listed below:

    Front Stabilizer Bar (Touring) Part# 48811-47050
    Rear Stabilizer Bar (Touring) Part# 48812-47020
    Rear Shocks (Touring) Part# 48530-47041

    Part#'s Needed:
    Rear Springs (Touring)
    Front Right Strut (Touring/Base)
    Front Left Strut (Touring/Base)
    Front Springs (Touring/Base)

    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I just don't trust a Stealerships Parts Department to get me the right parts without having an actual Part# to give them.

    One additional item for consideration if you are going to be purchasing the Touring edition suspension parts from the dealer would be to compare the pricing of the TRD suspension upgrade for the Prius. The TRD suspension upgrade may be priced close to or possibly less than the price of the individual Touring edition parts.

    Unfortunately the TRD Sportivo Suspension lowers the car by about an 1" maybe a little more. Which is something I don't need or want. Thanks for responding though.

    I heard back from a few Stealerships today and the Part#'s they came back matched, for the most part, LOL. I think some still have "old" Part#'s in their database and Toyota has done the old "Replaced with ...." for some Part#'s.

    Anyway, the numbers listed below should at least get anyone interested in replacing their "Standard" Prius suspension with the "Touring" suspension pointed in the right direction.

    The prices are just a sample of some online pricing I found with a quick search. You may be able to find some places a little better depending on where you look.

    1. For the 2006 - 2009 Prius, the following suspension parts are different on the Touring from the Standard Prius:

    a. Front Stabilizer Bar (Part# 48811-47050 at $79.06, Qty. 1)
    b. Rear Stabilizer Bar (Part# 48812-47020 at $51.85, Qty. 1)
    c. Rear Shocks (Part# 48530-49735 at $93.92/each, Qty. 2)
    d. Rear Springs (Part# 48231-47091 at $43.13/each, Qty. 2)

    2. For the 2006 -2009 Prius, the Front Struts and Springs are the same on the Standard Prius as on the Touring.

    a. Front Right Strut (Part# 48510-80274 at $99.07, Qty. 1)
    b. Front Left Strut (Part# 48520-80064 at $91.14, Qty. 1)
    c. Front Springs (Part# 48131-1N550 at $41.28/each, Qty. 2)

    I'm about to replace the front struts on my 2/05. I'm happy with the existing ride and performance such as it is. Would there be any advantage to using the newer struts? How would they perform with the old springs? I'm wondering why Toyota bothers to maintain the two parts in inventory unless there are dire consequences of mixing & matching.

    hi all,

    I bought the touring package and installed the rear struts/springs. I am going to thave the dealership do the front stabalizer bar but the prius tech there didnt know about the size of the bushings. The bar is 22mm for touring vs 21mm for standard and I cant find the 22mm prius touring bushings anywhere. Please help! THe tech at the dealership was there most advanced prius tech who been working on them since they came out and he didnt know.

    I bought the clam strut compressor from harbor freight it does not work for the prius gen 2 front, no way to get all 4 legs onto the old strut spring enough to compress it. FYI. But on the front there are no reused parts so I am getting a shop to assemble my front struts for me, 10 dollars a piece Wheeling Spring Co.

    I drove a 2004 back around when the 2nd gen was released. It handled like a boat. Cornered like it was going to tip over on the side. I had to walk away from getting one. I would not have been able to handle driving a car that handled soooo poorly.

    Then I test drove a Touring in 2008. Totally different car. Cornered as well as our Lexus SC400 which we owned at the time. I could do 4 wheel drifts coming out of on ramps which all 4 tires squealing. Not my Corvette with Z51, but very sporty even for a sport sedan.

    A totally different car. My wife said she couldn't notice the difference :eek:

    We ordered a 2009 and got it in September of 2008. At that time, the package levels had been reduced from 8 to 6. We ordered a #6 Touring. The touring option added an extra $520. Lower levels, the Touring cost more because at some point the lower package numbers don't include HID.

    225K miles now. Original everything on the car except maintenance items. Combo meter replaced under enhanced warranty. Water pump replaced under recall.
