check engine light/no power- 12v?

    So... I went to go start Prometheus (05 package 3 seaside pearl) tonight, he's been parked in our garage since Late Sunday- almost daily use otherwise.

    First off, he didn't recongize me- no lights came on. Clue one this isn't going to go well. The Drivers door was unlocked (apparently I didn't lock it last time) but shut.



    The next thing I tried was starting it. The only thing that turns on is the check engine light. :frusty:


    I can't get my scan gauge to recognize it was plugged in. It wouldn't turn on.

    I think it's the 12volt, is there any reason to think otherwise? All electical systems are otherwise (can't lock/unlock with the key eletronically- either of them) dead. I can't do anything but unlock the drivers door, so I can't even access the back hatch. :mad:

    oh yeah- the only thing I hate. The park button flashes at me.Wth....

    Amy, you may be able to get the car to boot up after several attempts.

    Pop the hood & hook up a charger. If the battery will hold a charge note the voltages on the ScanGauge. If they are low (should be) drive to the dealer for a battery. If the battery won't hold a charge, jump start the car then drive to the dealer for a battery.

    thanks guys. It was the 12v. We couldn't even get the car to turn on the next day. No lights, no engine warning, couldn't get scan gauge to register.


    What a pain. I hooked up the new one (bought from the dealership) up front just long enough to pop the back hatch. replacing that 12v, it has screws you can drop into holes that just disappear. We got them all back, and thanks to the bentley manual knew what sequence to disassemble/reassemble it.

    The only thing that really scared me, was when I rebooted the car it initially flashed and had the LOW GAS warning. I freaked out and shut the car off, went out the building and got the gas from the lawn mower (not the best, but heck if I haven't got anything else...) and put it in the tank- less than a half gallon.

    Yeah, turns out I didn't leave the car on and run it out of gas(I was expecting the triangle of death to accompany it). It was simply rebooting....

    Was that a 2-stroke lawn mower, the kind in which you add oil to the fuel? Never transfer the resultant goop into any car unless it's a matter of life or death. Go fill up the car with gasoline ASAP to dilute that junk as much as possible.

    no it wasn't. That gas is in a separate can, clearly marked.

    In order to make sure I had a fully charge on the battery I did take him out for a nice long drive, after filling up the missing 2 gallons at a gas station.
