I'll be more impressed when this technology and placement of the lasers allows rockets to be detected and cracked during the boost phase, rather than on re-entry. I'd prefer to have Mother Nature return those highly-enriched and valuable payloads to their original owners; rather than sharing them with total strangers. But, hey, that’s just my opinion; I bet Mr. Ahmadinejad sees things differently. Do you suppose he drives a Prius? ;)

    Anti-missle Laser defense...
    1)Reflective surface
    2)Insulated surface
3)Auto-detonation if internal temperature exceeds...400F (or whatever temp).

Look, I really really like the idea of defensive weapons, but I agree that we need weapons that can consistently, reliably, and quickly take out these missiles well before they enter US airspace.

I'd be more impressed if we had universal, affordable health care, instead of spending a jillion dollars to "maybe" shoot down a missile from some non-existent thread!

    Give me a break.

Universal health care?! C'mon, man, there's way more profit in weapons.

This test was during the boost phase.

Big deal, we are never going to have this threat, its all about wasting a lot of money, and thats all this is, most of this stuff isn't even for the US, the US gives it away to Israel and "our friends".

You naysayers are missing the point: just *think* what you could do to an anthill with that thing! It would beat any magnifying glass you had as a kid.

Le me rephrase that,, I am not interested in providing health care for Klingons or tribbles, but some modicum for people,, and maybe dogs would be a good start!

What did this one test cost? How many medical bankruptcies could have been prevented just by canceling this test? Once again, I am ashamed at our priorities!

People in this country are not important to the military industrial complex, we are just pawns to be abused.

Big bad stick in the sky, more than just a pricy pointer...

In theory, this technology can be used on ground targets also... from 50 miles away.

Only... it probably wouldn't be ants...

So what's the best defense for that? SPF 25,000? :D

From what I know... 30 meters of granite... and then if you do, there are other assets that are designed for that defense.

Killing is being made expensive and easy, making war easier to do, all you have to do is punch a button, forget the consequences, the ultimate end to society thanks to the military.

Well heck, 30 meters of granite is *not* going to look good with my swimsuit...

Perhaps a highly reflective surface would make'em say, "foiled again!"
