I have three threads indicating that it is not possible to change the temp display from F to C. At least, not intentionally. Yesterday, When I started up Priapus, I noticed that it was -2ºC instead of 28ºF.

For those who don't know, the sheep is my way of marking the picture as mine. As in, I didn't search the internet for it and when you see it posted on another forum you'll know where it came from.

It was messing with you, hoping you'd think it's -2F outside.

So is it just me? This isn't the first time this has happened but the first time I was able to grab a picture.

Doesn't anyone else think this is odd?

How good is that? You Prius knows metric is better than imperial measurements. Unfortunately the MPG display is a bit slow to catch on.

I don't see a problem with the temperature display either. :D

This is quite odd. I take it that the display is switching back and forth on its own?

I posted 12V battery photos on one of the Yahoo Prius groups as well as on PriusChat. I recently noticed a Russian Prius website poster "borrowed" a photo. Once it's in the public domain, who knows where a photo might travel.

The sheep was introduced in reply to a photo I posted a couple years ago. Some loudmouthed newbie was arguing that the Prius was incapable of mileage above 60mpg because he was incapable of it himself. I posted a picture of my 73.3mpg tank. His reply was to accuse me of finding that image on the internet and claiming it as my own.

Back to your issue of C vs. F temp display. My guess is that the MFD has a soldered jumper on a circuit board that enables F temp display (with default being a C display). The connection is intermittent, which allows you to see a C display from time to time.

This is good news: Your Prius' market value can only increase, as it has become a unique vehicle equipped with this unusual feature!

Guess mine's a permanent bug, tony ;). no I've never had it switch to fahrenheit. Do note that the temperature display is calculated in celsius (that's why it skips certain numbers in fahrenheit)

Isn't it just programmed in to display F in the US and C everywhere else? Is it something the dealer can change when they plug their computer in?

I'm not a great fan of metric but the one metric measurement that really does make sense is Celsius. We used F here until the early 1980's and some people often use F in summer and C in winter. I suppose it's what you get used to.

Maybe outdoors it is F sometime and C other times, so it is just reporting the actual temperature.

J/K ... it does sound like an intermitant connection ....

It just occurred to me that some of the temperature sensors we make (where I work) have physical resisters that determine the temperature scale. To switch from F to C is a simply matter of snipping the wire thus removing the resister. This triggers the switch.

Does anyone have a wiring schematic that might show something similar.

A related question. Does everyone see the drop down banner across the entire width of the MFD (at the top) announcing the outside T being 37 F?

Yes. The 'snowflake' graphic reminds me strongly of the aliens featured in the Outer Limits episode, "Behold, Eck!"

That's my usual response when I see it.... behold, Eck!

I thought we didn't get the snowflake icon in Canada.... I didn't.... I guess only in the 2010?
